Texas didn’t just beat Alabama 34-24 in Tuscaloosa with ease. Instead, the Longhorns delivered a vicious attack, answering each Tide touchdown with their own and rising from the mat like Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania to stare down Nick Saban like Hulk Hogan did Andre”the”Giant. Texas proved itself superior in talent and with an outstanding quarterback. This win wasn’t by chance; Texas proved itself in every way. We all get tired of the preseason hype that Texas gets every year, but this team looks deserving of that hype!
The SEC already has six nonconference losses through two weeks, four to the ACC (though this could change with Commissioner Greg Sankey expanding and adding North Carolina, Florida State, Miami and Wake Forest to his SEC schedule). According to ESPN Stats and Information, this marks the first season since 2002 in which Alabama, LSU and Florida each experienced at least one non-SEC defeat by Week 2. Of course, what makes this even more surprising is how easy overall the SEC schedule has been. Georgia has played nobody of note yet, but the teams that have played good teams have lost for the most part.
Colorado routed Nebraska 36-14 on Saturday, as Travis Hunter again made an impactful difference on both sides of the ball, collecting three catches for 73 yards while adding four tackles and showing promising signs as a tackler. Meanwhile, Xavier Weaver made an early impression by hauling in 10 receptions for 170 yards, while Shedeur Sanders followed up his 500-yard showing against TCU with another 393 passing yards and three touchdown passes against Nebraska; Shedeur Sanders added three takeaways as well, even while Week 1’s win against TCU did not demonstrate anything extraordinary from its defense – Nebraska completed just 11 completions while producing four takeaways against Texas, unlike previous wins over TCU. Don’t read too much into the first two games. Colorado is a good team, but the question is how good?
Oregon rallied from a 27-18 deficit and picked off former QB Tyler Shough three times, including a 45-yard pick-six with 45 seconds remaining to secure a 38-30 win against Texas Tech.
Washington State secured an upset victory against No. 19 Wisconsin.
UCLA was victorious over San Diego State.
Utah managed to get by Baylor, while Colorado continued their impressive play, and the Washington Huskies kept throwing touchdown passes with Heisman Candidate Michael Pennix.
The competition has not been overwhelming yet, but transfer Quarterback Sam Hartman is putting up big numbers for the Irish. Hartman’s Notre Dame career so far: Three wins, ten touchdowns, no picks; at this rate, the Irish will be a playoff contender.
