As we are near the halfway point of the 2022 college football season, I figured it would be the perfect time to start looking at the Heisman Trophy favorites. To me, Bryce Young is the favorite so far, but voter fatigue could set in with Young. Check out the top football betting strategies.
This season, Kansas has been one the most exciting stories in college football. The Jayhawks currently rank 19th in the AP Poll, the first time a number has been next to their name for 13 years.
Daniels is a crucial reason for this. His 85.6 passing score is seventh best among Power Five quarterbacks. If that holds true, it would be the highest passing grade Kansas’s quarterback has received since PFF started grading college football in 2014.
Bennett is looking even better after winning the national championship last season. Bennett’s 85.1 pass grade is five points better than his 2021 score (79.9).
Although he may be playing the role of game manager for Georgia’s offense he is very effective. His big throw rate of 2.8 per cent is tied for 112th, while his turnover-worthy play rate (1.7%) is twentieth. Bennett will be able to stay in the Heisman race because Georgia, second in the country, will likely make another Playoff appearance.
Williams has enjoyed a strong start to the season. However, his Heisman odds of winning are more dependent on his preseason expectations than his actual play. The sophomore’s 83.2 passing score is the 19th highest in the country. His 3.5% big-time throw rate, however, is only 94th.
As the season progresses, USC’s passer should also improve. His 91.3 grade, which was his first year as a true freshman, was among the top-10 in the Power Five. Also, he scored a 90.4 against Arizona State last weekend.
So long as No. Williams will continue to race for the Heisman as long as 6 USC is still in the thicket of the College Football Playoff hunt.
Blake Corum, the first running back on this list, has been the engine of Michigan’s offense.
Corum is the leader in the nation with ten rushing touchdowns and fourth with 611 yards rushing. Although it might not be obvious, Corum is a great pass-protector. His 85.0 pass blocking grade is second for Power Five backs.
As they attempt to secure their second consecutive Playoff berth, fourth-ranked Michigan will continue relying on him.
Last season, Uiagalelei was the main reason Clemson did not make the College Football Playoff. His performance this season looks to be the catalyst for another CFP run by the fifth-ranked Tigers.
Uiagalelei’s current passing grade is 89.0, the sixth highest among Power Five quarterbacks. His 64.4 passing grade last year, was 11th lowest in the Power Five.
He is the only player with a big-time throw rate of over 80% and a low turnover rate among the top five Power Five. Uiagalelei could be a legitimate Heisman contender and could even be a first-round selection in the 2023 Draft. Check out the top football odds.
Stroud is currently the Heisman favorite, with a 40% implied chance of winning the award. I do not agree with this as I feel Bryce Young has been the best this season.
Although box score stats may make him the front-runner for the Heisman, Stroud’s grade isn’t as strong — he has made six turnover-worthy plays to go with just seven big-time throws. With a scheme that allows for a lot of open throws and a receiving corp that can make a lot of plays, the Buckeyes signal-caller has it all.
Stroud hasn’t been a bad player this year. His 92.2 grade last season shows that he can play top-tier football in the second half of the season. He hasn’t been required to carry as much offense as some of the top quarterbacks.
The Volunteers 2022 college football season has been a surprise to many. They went from being unranked in the preseason AP Poll to No.8 After just five weeks, Their offense, particularly quarterback Hendon Hooker, is the driving force behind their success.
Hooker’s 88.5 rush grade is the best among Power Five quarterbacks. Hooker’s solid 82.2 passing grade is tied with C.J. Stroud is 16th in the Power Five. Hooker will have another chance to improve his resume when he takes on No. 25 LSU this Week.
Hooker has been better than Stroud so far this season.
Young seems to be suffering from voter fatigue. Young is now the third-highest graded quarterback in the nation (91.3). This is despite having a receiving corp that ranks 67th nationally in the team receiving grade (67.7).
He is also the quarterback of the nation’s top-ranked team, so team success plays an essential role in the Heisman Race. Archie Griffin is the only person to have won the trophy two times. Based on the evidence so far, Young would receive my vote to be the second Heisman repeat winner.
