Week 5 action starts in earnest for the Edmonton Elks (0-4), who travel to the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a substantial spread. Their start hasn’t exactly been kind; travelling on the road against Saskatchewan Roughriders won’t make for pleasant viewing either. The Elks have been a mess on both sides of the ball, which will probably continue in this game.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders took it easy in Week 4 after their thrilling 29-26 overtime win against the Calgary Stampeders in Week 3. So, coming off the bye week should make this team even better, and that’s bad news for the woeful Elks.
Trevor Harris has done an admirable job leading the Riders, as they have ranked second in passing yards per game (289.0).
The Elks made an unprecedented change at quarterback this season by giving Jarret Doege his first start – which did not go well, with him only completing 19-of-33 attempts for 223 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in 19 attempts. The Elks offense has been horrible and the defense is just bad. Can they turn it around? Not likely!
It is a big point spread, but I think it would maybe be even bigger as the Elks are a mess. The answers at quarterback are not on the Elks roster, which means this season is over for the Elks if they don’t find someone soon. The Riders aren’t world beaters but they will make the playoffs and could possibly be dangerous once they get there. Take the Riders and give the points.
