The Ottawa Redblacks (0-2) host the Edmonton Elks (0-3) at TD Place Stadium on Friday night. Ottawa opens this contest as a 3.5-point favorite. The over/under has been set at 42.5. The expected starting quarterbacks are still to be determined. Both teams have struggled offensively at the start of this season, the Elks did show signs of life last week scoring over thirty points.
Edmonton may need something different in order to come back alive again, and Ottawa could provide just the solution they’ve been waiting for. Ottawa’s defense began showing some holes against Calgary Stampeders during Week 3, allowing 442 total yards at 7.6 yards per play – also surrendering a CFL-high 296.5 pass yards per contest.
Ottawa has suffered on offense this season, averaging only 241.5 yards per game and ranking last in league-wide yards per play averages. Tyrie Adams will make his first career start as quarterback on Friday and look to make an immediate impression with a quick impactful debut performance.
Edmonton Elks’ significant offseason investment in strengthening their offensive side has not produced results yet, as they have just 44 points scored through three games..
However, replacing Taylor Cornelius with rookie Jarret Doege did provide some much-needed spark during their Week 3 loss against the Argonauts. However, Doege may get his chance in Friday night’s matchup vs. Toronto. If he does we will find out if the Elks finally have a true starting quarterback.
The Elks have more weapons, and the Redblacks defense has been bad this season. Neither team is very good, but I do think the Elks have some advantages in this one. With all of that said I think the value is great getting the Elks and +3.5 points in this matchup.
