Two of the three best teams in the CFL square off on Thursday night in a huge game that will have major playoff consequences. Winnipeg is 5-2 but has not lived up to the lofty expectations they had coming into this season. BC is 6-1 and has been dominant this season.
The Blue Bombers defeated the Elks 28-14. Brady Oliveira led in rushing, breaking a long run for 18 yards but failing to convert. Overall he averaged 6.5 yards per carry as he amassed 110 yards on 17 carries in total for the game. Zach Collaros finished 20/24 passing and contributed 308 yards with 2 touchdown passes while throwing away only 1 pick during their victory.
At present, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers boast 1,793 passing yards and average 256.1 per outing which ranks fifth in the CFL. Their opponent averaged 368.0 yards/contest which put them second overall.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers have allowed 635 yards rushing this season (90.7 per game) and five touchdowns on the ground, scoring 21.0 PPG, ranking them third in their league. In total, they have given up 147 total points with 7 touchdowns via passing and 222.6 yards per game being given up, placing them second overall in CFL rankings.
The Lions defeated the Elks 27-0 to pick up the victory last week. Dane Evans completed 25/32 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns without an interception during this game. Taquan Mizzell led on the ground with 22 carries totaling 117 yards, but didn’t convert a touchdown run; his average yards per carry average was 5.3. Lucky Whitehead led in receiving yardage with 54 on six receptions at 9.0 average yards per catch!
BC Lions average an impressive 26.0 points per contest when it comes to scoring touchdowns, ranking fourth in their league at 90.4 yards per run game and amassing 2,594 total yards this season. BC has recorded 12 touchdown passes and 4 ground touchdowns during 2018.
The Lions currently rank 1st in the CFL when it comes to opponent scoring, allowing 13.4 PPG. They allow an average of 4.7 yards per run and 69.7 rushing yards per game on average; giving up 488 ground game yards through seven games played this season alone and 1,302 passing yards (twond-most in league). Through six contests played this season they have conceded 186.0 yards per contest while maintaining an completion percentage of 63.6%, giving up an average completion percentage of 63.66% and all-in total they have given up 255.7 yards per game which puts them ahead of all others in terms of league play compared with 255.7 average over all.
This is the game of the week in the CFL. I like the Blue Bombers to cover the 4.5 points. Winnipeg had a bye week last week and Zach Collaros will be the difference in a 27-20 Bombers victory!
