Before announcing his retirement, British professional boxer Tyson Fury was recorded as a two-time world heavyweight champion of WBC and IBF since defeating Deontay Wilder in 2020. Also, the 33-year-old held the unified WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO after defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Check out the best new sportsbooks for betting on Boxing!
Fury recorded 33 fights, won 32 (23 by KO), and drew once in his career. According to TN News, Fury’s reason for his retirement is because of injury and his trilogy fight with Wilder. Fury once said that he would quit boxing and never return.
Fury, who has recorded no losses throughout his career, is back in the news after a recent event at Englandβs Houghton-le-Spring Layton Arena. On the event called βFury Fest β The Official After Party Tourβ, the British boxer celebrated his past victory over Dillian Whyte in April. Fury said that the reason for his retirement is injury and that he doesn’t want to fight anymore, according to talkSPORTβs Michael Benson.
βPeople say, βOne more, two more.β But if Iβm in a wheelchair and say, βI hit four more people, brain damage. Iβm the one who got hit by these giants. I mean, people βIβve had enough, I donβt want to fight anymore,β Fury said.
As per the same source, Fury stated that he would wait for the winner of Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk 2 to see if he would put on the gloves to come to the ring again. However, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman said that Fury has a history of “changing his mind” and was not surprised by what Fury said about his next endeavors.
Then, Sulaiman asserted Fury “deserved” to have his retirement and spend time with his family.
βFury deserves some quality time with his family after an incredible event. White is mandatory, so no promise,β Sulaiman said.
In April 2022, Tyson Fury fought Whyte at Wembley Stadium in front of 94,000 fans. Fury defeated Whyte with a knockers uppercut at the end of the sixth round. At that time, Fury managed to retain his WBC heavyweight title. The fight started when Whyte came out in early attempts to knock Fury out of his game but that also made a chance for Fury to land jabs.
As the round passed, Fury landed his punches actively. Whyte couldn’t manage to land his punch back, so he did the body shot. But, Fury responded and stopped the moves from Whyte. Therefore, in the fourth round after Fury’s blow opened the wound above Whyte’s eyebrow, the two had a chance to hit each other, including a hit to the back of the head in the corner. Then, the referee pushed Fury and Whyte away and separated them.
Then, Fury said that he could control the attack and told sources that the match between him and Whyte was about the right timing. Fury said that he managed to land a jab before finishing Whyte after exchanging punches with the 34-year-old boxer, who is also British. It was 2:59 in the sixth round when Whyte was knocked out by Fury.
Despite the win, Fury said that Whyte is a great fighter and would become champion in years. However, he said it was unlucky because Whyte had to fight him that night. So Fury was full of crap there as Whyte will never be a World Champion!
