Negotiation between the two parties over a fight that PBC would air on pay-per-view is still ongoing, and neither has reached an official agreement regarding the fight at this time.

“I’m free to do whatever I want,” Crawford told ESPN.

“There’s nothing standing in the way from us fighting,” he continued. “There’s no promotion company that’s blocking it, there’s no wrong side of the street, there’s no nothing. Let’s see who the best welterweight in the world is.”

Crawford made his debut as a professional boxer in 2008. In 2014, Crawford won the title of light-welterweight champion, and by 2017, he held the titles of light-welterweight champion in the WBO, WBO, WBA, and IBF.

After winning over Shawn Porter in November via technical knockout in the 10th round, Crawford decided to separate ways with Top Rank, his long-time promoter. Crawford sued Arum and Top Rank for nearly $10 million, alleging “revolting racist bias” that prevented him from securing high-paying fights for the champion.

Crawford now holds the number one spot on Chris Mannix’s Pound-for-Pound rankings published in Sports Illustrated.

For many years, fans have been disappointed by the sport’s failure to put on a good show. The match is “definitely…. bigger now,” according to Crawford.

Spence returns

In 2012, Spence made his professional debut after winning the Golden Gloves in 2009. He won the IBF welterweight championship in 2017 by defeating Kell Brook, and he has since successfully defended it six times. Check out the top new sportsbook for betting on boxing!

Spence, currently ranked fourth on Boxing Junkie’s list, last competed in April. He won the third of his three titles by knocking out Yordenis Ugas in 10 rounds. He is currently the champion of the IBF, WBA, and WBC.

Following the victory against Yordenis Ugas, Spence also returned from surgery to repair a detached retina. 32 years old Spence, from Desoto, Texas, was scheduled to battle the great Manny Pacquiao in August. However, he withdrew from the match after determining that he needed emergency surgery.

It was the second significant setback of Spence’s career after being hospitalized following a car accident in October of 2019. Spence was involved in a horrifying solo car accident just two weeks after he defeated Shawn Porter in 2019 to win the WBC. In December of 2020, he made his comeback to the ring and defeated Danny Garcia to successfully defend his titles.

Spence fought Yordenis Ugas in April for the WBA (Super) welterweight title after he had recovered from a torn retina that caused him to pull out of a bout against Manny Pacquiao. The fight was initially scheduled to take place in December. Spence won the battle through technical knockout after Ugas’ eyes became swelled and closed.

Spence challenged Crawford to a fight in April, declaring “I want Terence Crawford” and saying he was “coming” for Crawford’s 147-pound championship belt. Crawford accepted the challenge and appeared that both were moving in that direction.

“Now everybody’s saying that Errol’s back, and he’s 100% ready. So now is the perfect time for me and him to fight,” said Crawford, “He called me out, so it ain’t no backing up.”
