On July 5th Hasim Rahman Jr. signed a deal to fight Jake Paul and to weigh no more than 200 pounds. The fight has now been cancelled due to Rahman’s inability to make the weight. This should be no surprise since Rahman is a Heavyweight and has normally fought most of his fights in the range of 220-230 pounds. When it became clear that Rahman could not make the agreed-upon 200lb weight limit, a new contract was written stating the weight for the two fighters would not exceed 205lbs. It became clear to all parties involved that Rahman intended to fight next weekend at 215lbs, so the fight is now off. The big question that comes to mind is why Paul would schedule himself to fight a Heavyweight when he is just a Cruiserweight, but what else do you expect from a sideshow act who has never fought a true boxer in his career? It’s not because Rahman is a huge name, sure his dad was, but Hasim Jr. was knocked out a couple of months ago by Kenzie Morrison, the son of former WBO Heavyweight Champion Tommy Morrison.
If you bought a ticket or already purchased the PPV show, number one, you should be ashamed of yourself, and number two, Paul’s promotion team at MVP, announced full refunds would be given back. The real shame is for the actual boxers that were to be on the show, like Amanda Serrano, who has been training to fight and is now left with nothing. MVP put out a statement blaming Rahman, but the genuine fault should be with MVP and Paul as they contracted a true Heavyweight who weighed 225-230 in his last fight to fight at 200lbs; the writing was on the wall when the fight was signed. This was Rahman’s one shot at getting rich because he would never be a contender in the Heavyweight division. The Paul brother’s circus will continue proving there is indeed a sucker born every minute.
