In this fight’s first media tour, Alvarez stared down Golovkin with an intense look, and neither wanted to be the first to blink an eye.

After the face-off, both of them moved carefully and searched for the camera sight. After neither Alvarez nor Golovkin showed any desire in the fight, promoter Eddie Hearn separated them and they went in opposite directions.

Alvarez’s take on staredown

After a minute of a staredown, Alvarez commented and said that Golovkin was faking his nature before the fight. “It’s personal for me because he talks (about) a lot of things,” Alvarez said.

“He’s two different people. He pretends that he’s a nice guy but he’s not,” he said. “He’s an (expletive).”

As rivals, they both battled twice before and Friday served as a chance for Golovkin to win over Canelo’s undisputed super-middleweight titles. By knocking him out, Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) is on a quest to defeat Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs).

The 31-year-old Mexican plans to end Golovkin’s career as it is the first time Golovkin moves to a new stage as a super middleweight. Of course, Canelo is the man that ducked GGG for a few years the first time around waiting for him to get old. He did it again as he made GGG wait for the third fight until 4 years later. Canelo also tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs before the second fight and received no real punishment, so it’s hard to see why it’s personal for Canelo. GGG clearly won the first fight but got screwed by the Vegas decision but had to settle for a draw. The rematch was a much closer fight but the majority of people believed that GGG won that fight also.

Golovkin on Alvarez’ comment

Both of the boxers start the promotion with a press conference moderated by Eddie Hearn. Speaking through a translator, Golovkin decided to not get into it and said he has a lot of respect for what Alvarez achieved in his boxing career through an interpreter

“I respect him a lot,” he said.

He declined to engage in Alvarez’s war of words and said he didn’t comprehend what Alvarez was on about. “As far as him saying it’s personal, I really don’t understand what he’s talking about,” he said. To bet on the fight go to the best new sportsbooks for betting on Boxing.

Later, Golovkin said that after his second fight with the 31-year-old Mexican, both shook hands. He asserted the fight was finished and both of them would put everything behind them.

”He says that he still has something against me. That’s his problem, not mine.” Golovkin said.

His first encounter against Alvarez resulted in a draw on September 17, 2017. Then, Golovkin brought up Alvarez’s contentious victory on September 15, 2018, saying that on that night, Alvarez was granted a huge decision.

Since failing against Alvarez, Golovkin never recorded any loss in his fight with another boxer. Only two fighters have beaten him in the ring, WBA light Heavyweight champion Dimitry Bivol and Alvarez himself.

Both Alvarez and Golovkin will take their last media tour in New York City on June 27, 2022, before the rivalry will be settled down on September 17, 2022, at T-Mobile Arena. The battle will be aired live on DAZN PPV in the U.S as well as Canada and on DAZN around the world.
