Legal landscape of online sports betting in Arizona
“Is sports betting legal in Arizona?“ is undoubtedly the most important question to ask before discussing where to bet on sporting events in the state. The good news is that, unlike the current
Minnesota sports betting
scene, which is still fighting to legalize sports betting, sports betting is legal in Arizona. It was officially legalized in April 2021, when Governor Doug Ducey signed HB2772 into law.
5 months later, the first set of state-approved retail and online sportsbooks launched just in time for the NFL season. This opened up many betting opportunities for state residents, many of whom took advantage. In fact, the state handled $291.2 million in bets in its debut month, followed by $486.1 million and $466.7 million in the next two months.

The next is basketball, with the popular NBA league getting huge attention. This is followed by baseball and hockey, with the MLB and NHL driving fans to bet on games. You should note that, in addition to the major leagues, college sports are also popular in the Arizona betting scene.
Esports is also popular in Arizona, and all the top sportsbooks offer extensive markets for it, just as in the
Tennessee sports betting
scene. Furthermore, you will also find opportunities to explore daily fantasy sports (DFS) on Arizona betting apps.
Types of betting markets available
Arizona sportsbooks typically offer a variety of betting markets for bettors in the state to wager on. Some of the most popular options you will find include:
- Moneyline:
Wagering on which team will win the game.
- Spreads:
Betting on the margin of victory or defeat.
- Totals (Over/Under):
Wagering on the combined points, goals, or runs scored by both teams.
- Live bets:
Wagering on live events as they unfold in real time.
- Futures:
Long-term bets on overall tournaments instead of individual games (e.g., Arizona Cardinals to win the NFL championship).
- Props:
Betting on individual player or team performance and stats.
What you can’t bet on in Arizona
It’s also important to mention that there are some restrictions in the Arizona online sports betting market. First, betting on high school players is strictly prohibited within the state. There’s no exception to this. While college sports are available for betting, player prop bets are banned on those markets.
Furthermore, markets on non-sporting events like elections, award shows, and reality TV shows are not available on Arizona betting sites. The Arizona betting scene focuses solely on sports.

Best bonuses to expect from Arizona betting sites
Another thing to look forward to in Arizona betting sites is bonuses and promotions. AZ bookmakers typically come with a variety of bonuses and promotions that bettors in the state can enjoy. Below are some of the most common you may find online:
- Welcome bonus:
It is the most common promotion bookmakers reserve for new players on the site. It often comes in the form of a “bet something to get something” offer. For example, FanDuel currently offers a “Bet $5, Get $250 if You Win!” promotion. It can also come as a cashback or deposit match bonus.
- Deposit match:
A sportsbook promotion that matches your deposit by a specific percentage. For example, a “100% up to $500” offer. Here, any deposit you make will give you the same amount in bonus funds.
- Second-chance bet:
It is a unique promotion that operates on the premise of protecting against lost wagers. With this offer, you get bonus funds if your bet loses. For example, the BetMGM welcome offer grants new players up to $1,500 in bonus funds if their first bet loses.
- Profit Boost:
It is a special promotion that improves bettors’ potential winnings on a wager. For example, you can find a “25% Profit Boost on any NBA Quick Hit” offer. Here, you will get a 25% boost in winnings if your NBA pick wins.
- Odds Boost:
You can also find odds boost offers on Arizona betting sites. This improves the odds on selected events for wagering.
- Parlay Insurance:
An insurance bonus that pays bettors something if one leg of a parlay fails. Instead of losing the wager outright, you get a bonus.
- Referral bonus:
It is a simple “refer a friend” promotion where you can get bonus funds for referring your friends to bookmaker sites.
How to choose the best sportsbook
Finding the best Arizona betting apps goes beyond looking at who has the biggest bonuses or sportsbooks. You must consider different factors to find the bookmaker that suits your taste. Let’s explore some of the key criteria you must always consider when choosing where to bet on sports in Arizona.
One of the most important considerations in choosing bookmakers is licensing. If an
online sportsbook
is not licensed and regulated by the Arizona Department of Gaming, you have no business joining such a site. After all, the regulatory body is responsible for the legal operations of sports betting within the state. And any operator that’s offering betting services without its blessing is doing so illegally, which can put you at significant risk.
⚽ Sports and betting markets
A major hallmark of the best online sportsbooks is variety, and Arizona bookmakers are no exception. The best operators typically offer betting opportunities on a wide range of sports, covering major leagues, local teams, and even niche competitions. Additionally, the top sites will also offer almost every bet type imaginable, from moneylines to spreads, totals, futures, live bets, and even props. You should only consider such sites when choosing where to bet on sports.
Another factor you should consider when deciding which bookmaker to join is the odds. This is because the odds offered by Arizona sportsbooks typically differ from one site to another, albeit often only slightly. As such, you should always target platforms that offer the best odds to ensure you don’t leave potential winnings on the table.
You will agree that mobile apps are easier to use for sports betting, offering instant access to Arizona markets and exciting features. So, consider whether a downloadable mobile app is available for your Android or iOS device when choosing where to join. You want a sportsbook with a fast, user-friendly app that loads quickly and works smoothly.
Live betting has become a fan favorite among many bettors, including Arizona residents. To enjoy the best live action, you should also prioritize the availability of live betting when choosing a site. The site should offer a wide range of in-play bets on every live game.
One of the many things that makes sports betting exciting is the availability of different betting features, which make it more interactive and immersive. This includes live streaming, early cashout, bet builders, among others.
When issues inevitably arise when betting on sports, you often need fast answers and resolutions. This is why you must also consider customer support availability when deciding which AZ sports betting site to join. Your chosen platform should have a responsive customer support service that’s available around the clock via live chat, email, phone, and other communication channels. This way, you can get help whenever you need it.
Responsible gambling
The same way that the
Michigan sports betting
market takes responsible gambling seriously, the Arizona betting market also prioritizes safe betting. They do this by providing bettors with a wide range of systems and resources. For example, the Arizona Department of Gaming works closely with regulated operators to ensure responsible gaming measures and tools are in place.
This is why most Arizona sports betting apps usually come with useful tools such as deposit limits, profit/loss limits, reality checks, and self-exclusion. Furthermore, the regulatory body provides a 24-hour hotline available to every resident in the state seeking help for problem gambling. Below are some of the resources available for getting help:
- Arizona Department of Gaming: problemgambling.az.gov
- National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG): ncpgambling.org
- Gamblers Anonymous: gamblersanonymous.org
