Fanatics is a little different to our previous sportsbooks, as this one has recently become an app-only platform. This is a bit of a shame for those who prefer to do their college football betting on desktop, but we can confirm that the app is fully functioning and provides a great user experience on a mobile device.

Moneyline and handicap spreads
These are the markets that you’ll find at each and every NCAAF sportsbook as they ask the biggest question of all: who’s going to win?
The moneyline is betting on a team to simply win the game by any score, be it by 1 point or 100.
The handicap spreads are in place to add to the excitement, particularly when the game looks like being a mismatch. They work by giving a team an artificial head start. Here’s an example:

These lines can move when a match is live depending on the score at the time, so if betting live, it’s important to be watching the match, or paying close attention to the score.
Totals (over/under)
These straightforward markets have two outcomes: will a bet finish under or over a total? Typically, in college football, it would be a points total or a team’s total yards.
Sportsbooks use 0.5 in their totals e.g. under or over 42.5 points, so that there can only be a winner or a loser (a game can’t finish on exactly 42.5 points, after all).
Like with all live bets, either the points total or the odds will change as a match progresses.
Player bets
Think you’ve spotted the next big name to come out of college football? Well, player bets give you the chance to back them to do well, such as to score the first touchdown of the match, or a touchdown anytime during the match.
Same game parlay
Parlay bets are when you back multiple things to happen, and they all have to happen for the bet to be successful. Typically, this would involve betting on multiple games pre-match. For example, you might fancy five different NCAAF teams to win.
However, some sportsbooks, like FanDuel, also offer same game parlays where you can back multiple things to happen in the same match, which increases the odds. An example of this might be Notre Dame to win and the match to have over 63.5 points. If just one of those two things happens, your bet will be unsuccessful, so make sure you don’t get too ambitious with these.
As promised in the intro, we thought we’d share three live NCAAF betting strategies with you. Ultimately, how you play is entirely up to you, and the main thing is that you have fun, but these strategies should hopefully help you to think a little more deeply about the game.
Specialize in a specific team or prop market
You know what the number one advantage that you have over the bookmaker is?
They have to provide odds for every single market of every match, whereas you can pick and choose what you bet on.
This means that our number one tip for any aspiring sports bettor is to specialize. Pick out a team or, even better, a type of bet that you find interesting or already know a lot about. You can then use your knowledge of that to spot when the odds are offering good value.
Think of it like an all-you-can-eat global buffet versus a seafood restaurant next to the ocean. Which one is likely to do the better lobster roll?
Take advantage of over-reactions
Live betting is great for taking advantage of over-reactions, as points scored (especially touchdowns) tend to lead to huge shifts in the odds which often aren’t justified. This is particularly the case when it happens early in a match.
You can use this to your advantage by holding fire on certain bets until immediately after something seemingly negative happens.
For example, you might want to bet on the LSU moneyline pre-match but think that the odds aren’t very generous. Instead of betting at that stage, a better idea might be to wait until the match is live and hope that their opponents score first. If that happens, you can then back LSU at much better odds straightaway and still have a huge amount of time for the game to switch in your favor.
Read the match and look for shifts in momentum
Football is a game of four quarters, and it contains regular momentum shifts (we’ve all seen Any Given Sunday and Al Pacino’s half-time speech, right?). Use this to your advantage when betting live.
If you’re watching the game (and you probably should be if you want to live bet), look for subtle shifts in momentum, which you can then use to inform your betting while the odds are still good.
An example might be a team starting slowly and going into the first quarter behind, but you’ve noticed that their defense is starting to get to grips with the opposition quarterback. You could then use the break to think about betting on the team to turn it around, or even for it to be a low scoring match.
As well as a good chance for coaches to get involved, betting during the breaks are helpful as they ensure that you can place a bet without worrying about something going against you just as you’re clicking the bet button. Unless you’re at the match in person, there is likely to be a short delay with your broadcast feed.
