Maryland may not have a deep bench, but its starting five can compete effectively against the No. 1 seed in the West Region. They possess the size to challenge Florida on the boards and around the rim, while also having the shooting ability to match them from the perimeter. The Terps aren’t heavily reliant on the three-point shot, yet they are shooting better from distance than the highly regarded Gators, hitting 37% of their attempts compared to Florida’s 35%. Additionally, Florida’s defense doesn’t apply as much ball pressure as Maryland’s relentless defense. The Terps rank in the top 50 nationally for turnover percentage on defense, while the Gators rank below the national average, coming in at 192nd.
The biggest issue to me is that the Gators have been a much more consistent team, and the Terrapins’ bench is short. Late in the game, that could play a factor. The Terps are a good team. but I think the gators are clearly the better team.
