Saturday afternoon’s Big Ten hoops season kicks into gear with a mouthwatering matchup between the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Indiana Hoosiers at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana. The tip-off time for this game is set for 12:00 ET.
At 13-8, they’ve managed to have a respectable season despite three consecutive losses to Purdue (87-66), Wisconsin (91) and Illinois (70-62) before rebounding with a win against Iowa last time out (74-68). Indiana also enters this conference matchup at 11-9-1 against the spread (ATS), having seen 11 out of 21 games go under totals so far this year.
Indiana was just a narrow 1.5-point favorite against Iowa last time out at home and managed to cover the spread with a six-point win. Galloway has had a decent season, averaging 10.4 points per game, along with team-high marks for assists (3.8 APG) and steals (1.1 SPG).
Mike Rhoades is still finding his stride after making the jump from VCU during the offseason, leading his Nittany Lions to 10-11 so far and posting four wins and four losses (Wisconsin 87-83, Rutgers 61-46) over their last eoght games, the four defeats came at the hands of Northwestern (76-72), Purdue 95-78, Ohio State 79 67 and Minnesota 83-74). From an ATS perspective, Penn State enters this game sitting 9-12 with 13 games going over their totals so far this season – which also means 9-12 against totals for betting purposes! Penn State dominated Rutgers on its recent road trip, defeating them by 15 points as a 6.5-point road underdog. Penn State led in every significant statistical category such as field goal percentage (38.5% to 34.0%), three-point shooting (21.77% to 5.9%), turnovers (16 to 20), and rebounding (40-32).
Kanye Clary has led his team in scoring, averaging 18.4 points per game. However, he is questionable for this contest due to an undisclosed injury. Ace Baldwin Jr. has also been exceptional, scoring 13.2 points per contest while leading both assists (5.0 APG) and steals (2.9 SPG) at team levels.
Indiana is at home, and Penn State is on the road; Indiana is a different team at home, and Penn State has struggled on the road this year. Look for the Hoosiers to pull away late and cover. Indiana 76 Penn State 68.
