Indiana vs Minnesota Preview
Week 12 of the 2022-23 college basketball season is continuing Wednesday, January 25th, with the Indiana Hoosiers facing the Minnesota Golden Gophers at the Big Ten Conference showdown at Williams Arena, Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Hoosiers have been hot as of late, winning three in a row. Minnesota is the worst team in the Big Ten, but they are a scrappy team that can hang around.
Their winning streak was extended to three games this Sunday. The Hoosiers defeated the Michigan State Spartans, 82-69.
Indiana erased a nine-point first-half deficit against Michigan State. The Hoosiers were 9-for-15 beyond the 3-point line, 21-for-24 at the charity stripe and had a great assist-to-turnover ratio. Senior forward Trayce Johnson-Davis scored 31 points, had 15 rebounds, four assists and made five blocks. Trey Galloway and sophomore guard Tamar Bates each contributed 17 points.
Jackson-Davis is unstoppable lately. He scored an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double against Wisconsin and 35 points against Illinois. The Hoosiers are 20th in the country in scoring points per 100 possessions (114.7). They shoot 56.0% inside the arc (27th), 38.1% downtown (27th), and 16.4 assists per games (22nd). Minnesota Golden Gophers Betting Tips
After two home losses to Illinois (78-60) and then No. 3 Purdue, 61-39. The Minnesota Golden Gophers this past Sunday, the Gophers lost 60-56 to Michigan, extending their losing streak of three games. The Gophers lost a 10-point lead in the second half against the Wolverines but overcame a 12.5-point deficit at Crisler Centre in Ann Arbor.
While the Golden Gophers shot 40.4% against Michigan from the field (6 for 23 from deep), they also committed 15 turnovers. Ta’Lon Cooper, the junior guard, posted a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds. Jamison Battle, a junior forward, had 14 points and five boards. Dawson Garcia, a sophomore forward, had 13 points, three assists and a staggering seven turnovers.
Minnesota’s Dawson Garcia is the leading scorer with 14.9 points per game and 6.3 rebounds this season. The Golden Gophers average 99.7 points per 100 possessions (which is 261st nationally), with 48.2% shooting from the inside arc (287th) as well as 32.1% shooting from downtown (278th). They are No. 187 in the KenPom rankings.

Betting the game
Minnesota is a strong defensive unit. The Golden Gophers are ranked 111th in the nation for allowing 100.8 points per 100 possessions. They also shoot 46.1% from the inside the arc (59th). Although they will do their best to contain Trayce Jackson-Davis, I doubt the Gophers can find a way around the Hoosiers’ defense. Minnesota has been struggling on the offensive side this season. On the other hand, Indiana allows only 95.9 points per 100 possessions (42nd) on 41.0% field goal shooting (62nd).
The Hoosiers have performed well in their last three games, and I expect more from them when they face the slumping Golden Gophers. The Hoosiers are 5-0 SU/ATS in their last five meetings with the Gophers.
Prediction: Take the Hoosiers and give the -9 points
