After their win over Georgia, Arkansas should be in. They did beat Alabama (86-83) in their last road game. They suffered a few bad losses, including the loss at LSU which was considered a Quad 3. CBS Sports still has them as a 9th-seed and not on the bubble for NCAA Tournament. The Razorbacks shot only 41% from the field and 69% (20-of-30) from the free throw line against Bama. Davontae and Nick Smith Jr. were the stars of the game with 24 points each.
They score well, scoring 75.3 points per game. They also lead the SEC in field goal percentage at 48.3%. However, they struggle to make three-pointers and are currently shooting 31.9%. This ranks them 11th in the SEC. They allow teams to shoot only 31.2% from beyond the arc and 41.1% from the field. Ricky Council IV leads Razorbacks with 16.8 points on 46% shooting 27.6%. Smith scores 12.9 points with 40.5% shooting
Tennessee comes off an 84β45 win over South Carolina on Saturday. They were coming off a road loss of 68-63 at Texas A&M, and a defeat at Kentucky of 66-54. They had dropped four of their five previous games. Josiah Jordan JamesΒ After missing four games due to an ankle injury, returned to score 18 points for the Vols in Saturday’s easy win over the Gamecocks. Jahmai Mashack contributed 14 points, Zakai Zeigler added 13 points.
After the game on Yahoo.com, Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said that James was “fantastic”.Β His presence is a huge influence on the team.Β He relieves a lot of pressure.”
Santiago Vescovi is the team’s leader. He averages 12.3 points per contest and has 4.6 rebounds, shooting 34.9% from beyond his arc. Zeigler contributes 11 points and 5.5 assists while shooting 37.3% (31% 3pt). The Vols will go as far as their elite defense allows them. They allow just 56.7 points per match (3rd), on 35.9% shooting (2nd), and only 24.7% from long distance (1st). They also outrebound opponents by seven per game. This team isn’t very dynamic offensively, scoring 71.8 points on an average of 43.2% shooting (2565th) or 32.5% from beyond the arc (278th).
These teams have not played since last season when they split their two games.
Arkansas must feel that they aren’t in the tournament yet, even though some bracketologists think so. As their offense has struggled against strong defensive teams, the Vols have only covered two of their eight previous games. They are still experiencing injury problems despite James being back with Tyreke Key (8.1ppg), and Julian Phillips (9ppg; 4.8rpg), being listed as questionable. Phillip has not played since February 11. Key was unable to attend the South Carolina game. With more incentive, the Razorbacks will play this road game, having already covered three consecutively.
