This is an enormous matchup between two teams that could find themselves in the National Championship game in April. Arizona is athletic and explosive, but Duke’s not too shabby in those areas either. Duke has won 17 straight games at Cameron, will that streak continue.
After an impressive and relatively straightforward victory against Dartmouth in their season-opening game, the Blue Devils will experience a substantial jump in competition when No.12 Arizona visits Cameron Indoor Stadium for an intense Friday night prime-time match-up.
Duke quickly established a double-digit lead against the Big Green and utilized their depth and talent advantage to build it to an unchallengeable 38-point win methodically. Kyle Filipowski led four Blue Devils in double figures with 25 points and seven rebounds as Duke improved to 1-0 on the season, winning 17 consecutive Cameron Indoor Stadium games under head coach Jon Scheyer.
On Monday night, Duke proved their defensive strength by holding Dartmouth to just 54 points on shooting percentages of.339 from the field and.222 from behind the three-point line. Duke forced 13 turnovers while dominating their opponent 56-24 in the paint.
Offensively, the Blue Devils shot an impressive.700 from the field and.769 from two-point territory during the second half.
Arizona was even more dominant against Morgan State, defeating them 122-59 to open its season with an emphatic performance. Eight players reached double figures, led by sophomore Kylan Boswell’s 18 points in 22 minutes for Arizona, while former North Carolina guard and 2022 Blue Devil vanquisher Caleb Love added 12 points over 21 minutes en route to Arizona leading by 35 at the half while shooting 55.3 from the field and 44 from long range (27 attempts total).
Arizona’s offense was outstanding, while their Wildcat defense proved equally impressive by forcing 16 steals and 25 total turnovers, leading to 41 points for Arizona. Furthermore, they recorded 38 fast break points and 31 second chance points while out-rebounding their opponents 49-25.
This will be a close, hard-fought game, and if Mitchell plays, it could make the difference in this game. Duke 77 Arizona 73. Bet Duke to win, but Arizona covers.
