NBA analyst ponders competitive nature of Nets forward Ben Simmons

Fox Sports 1’s Chris Broussard recently made a remark about Nets point guard Ben Simmons, saying that the point guard will surely shine this season if he is serious about basketball at all. Check out the best bookmakers for betting on the NBA!

As a result of not playing last season, many questioned whether the three-time All-Star would become one of the league’s best players. He decided he needed a change of scenery after an underwhelming postseason performance against the Atlanta Hawks in 2021. Consequently, he kept a distance from the Philadelphia 76ers until his trade request was met.

At the February trade deadline, Simmons was traded to the Brooklyn Nets for James Harden, bringing the months-long saga to a close. In the wake of the trade, Simmons was sidelined with a back injury and did not suit up for the Nets.

“Ben Simmons does have the money. He’s set in that regard. If he cares anything about his basketball career, like, as a player, it’s not just this is my job. I’m making tons of money. I’m a celebrity,” Broussard said.

“If it’s not that, if there’s any inkling of him that actually has pride in his basketball ability, what he does on the court, if there’s a competitiveness in him, he’s gonna ball.”

The upcoming season will mark his first appearance with the Nets since Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals in 2021. Simmons is Brooklyn’s biggest undiscovered talent because he hasn’t played in so long.

If you think Ben Simmons isn’t a very good basketball player, I’m sorry but you do not know ball with all due respect https://t.co/WQag9Xg3ow

Challenging season lies ahead

This upcoming season, Simmons will undoubtedly face more pressure than any other player as he looks to perform to the best of his abilities. Considering how things have unfolded over the past year and how much has changed, many people will be watching the 26-year-old when he takes the court for the first time. In addition to this, Simmons will also be under pressure because of the team he plays for.

At the moment, Kevin Durant’s trade request has caused turmoil for the Nets. In preparation for the franchise’s next phase, Simmons will be expected to lead the charge as another All-Star on the roster. There will be pressure on him as well as Kyrie Irving.

Simmons still has the potential to make a big impact on the Nets. As a teammate of Durant and Irving, he can be a significant help to the team. However, neither Durant nor Irving is guaranteed to be on the roster on opening night.

It’s too early to know what Simmons will look like when he finally plays basketball for Brooklyn in the 2022–23 season. Former Philadelphia teammate Seth Curry said Simmons should be prepared for a tough season ahead.

The All-Defensive First Team named him after averaging 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game in his last full season. It will be interesting to see how he plays for the Nets when he finally enters the game.

The situation Simmons is in right now is exactly what Broussard said. Simmons will silence his critics when the time comes if he truly wants to become a star in the league. Regardless, he will have a big impact on the 2022-23 season in Brooklyn.
