With Brogdon’s addition, the Celtics now have eight out 125 players from The NBA Top 125 players for the 2022-23 list, which is created annually by Seth Partnow from the Athletics. The list is curated by Partnow for predicting how the players will contribute to the franchise for the next season. He classifies the players with a tiered category starting from tier-5 to tier-1.
In Partnow’s list of NBA Top 125 players, there are six players from the franchise, namely Grant Williams on tier 5A, recently-signed Brogdon and Derrick White on tier 4B. There are also Robert Williams III, Al Horford, and Marcus Smart on tier 4A.
Williams is predicted by Partnow as one of the top 125 NBA players next season for his last season’s performances. The 6-foot-tall power forward was playing as a rotation player in 77 NBA games under coach Ime Udoka’s tactical adjustment. He averaged 7.8 PPG, 3.6 RPG, and 1.0 APG for the franchise. Williams had recorded 47.5 percent FGM followed by 41.1 percent 3PM.
Brogdon and White were playing as guards on their former respective teams, Pacers and Spurs, last season. From 36 games played in Indiana, Brogdon averaged 19.1 PPG with 5.1 RPG and assisted 5.9 per game. The 29-year-old guard had recorded 44.8 percent while attempting to score a basket and 31.2 percent while shooting from the arc.
However, White who was traded to the Celtics from San Antonio in mid-season was playing 26 games for the franchise and averaged 11.0 points, assisted 3.5, and 3.4 rebounds per game. The 27-years-old player had recorded 40.9 percent FGM and 31.4 percent 3PM.
Two Celtics tier 4A players, Williams III and Horford played for the franchise’s frontcourt for 61 and 69 games respectively. Williams III recorded 10.0 PPG, 9.6 RPG, and 2.0 APG. The 24-year-old center had also recorded 73.6 percent FGM and 72.2 percent FT.
Meanwhile, Horford was averaging 10.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game last season. Also, he recorded 46.7 percent of field goals made with 33.6 percent of three-point made.
Like other 4A players, Smart averaged 12.1 PPG, 3.8 RPG, and 5.9 APG. He also had himself 41.8 percent FGM and 33.1 percent 3PM from 71 regular season games.
There are two players on Partnow’s list with tier-3 or above, namely Jaylen Brown (tier 3A) and Jayson Tatum (tier 2A). Playing as a guard-forward 66 times, Brown averaged 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. The 25-year-old player also recorded 47.3 percent FGM and was shooting three-point for 35.8 percent.
The highest-rated Celtics player on the list, Tatum, averaged 26.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game last season for the Celtics. Playing for 76 games, Tatum recorded 45.3 percent FGM and 35.3 percent 3PM.
Boston will try their luck to chase its 18 NBA rings on these eight top-listed players by Partnow for the upcoming season. However, the pundit said that Udoka must improve the team’s performance, including Tatum’s turnover issues and inability to score in the paint area.
