The Lakers’ apparent interest in Pacers guard Buddy Hield is one of the most interesting NBA trade rumors that have been shared on social media. Lakers G.M. Rob Pelinka was close to completing a Hield-trade agreement when he was with the Kings. According to Dave McMenamin, ESPN’s NBA Today reporter, the team is still interested in making a move for the six-year veteran guard. Check out the top sportsbook sites for betting on the NBA.
McMenamin stated, “Things are not moving in terms of Brooklyn front [Kyrie and Russ]. Some talks about Buddy Hield have occurred between the Pacers and the Lakers.
The Lakers would most likely trade Russell Westbrook if they made a deal for Hield. The Pacers G.M. would also be interested in the triple-double king. Chad Buchanan would like a future first-round draft pick as a return also. Multiple sources indicate that this would either be the 2027 or 2029 Laker’s first-round draft pick.
In the 2021-22 NBA Season, Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and one steal per game. The guard shot an average of 44.4% from the field and 29.8% beyond the arc. The nine-time All-Star took his $47,063,478 player option to the team last month for the 2022-23 seasons.
Buchanan would have to deal with the guard’s salary if the Lakers can entice the Pacers into taking Westbrook. It’s not an issue per se. Indiana can afford Westbrook’s salary. This is a win-win situation for both sides.
The Lakers are currently in win-now mode. LeBron James turns 38 in December. Anthony Davis is a player who is prone to injury. Hield will give the Lakers a better chance of reaching the NBA Finals.
Hield’s last season averaged 15.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1 steal when you consider his play with the Kings and Pacers. Hield could help the Lakers return at least to the playoffs.
