This series between the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns was expected to be an epic battle of two of the top teams in the West; however, only Denver has shown up so far.
Game 1 saw Denver use an impressive second-quarter run to put away their opponents and cruise to an easy win. Game 2 proved more complex, yet Denver found success once later with just 14 Suns points scored during the fourth quarter allowing Denver to take an early 2-0 series advantage.
Chris Paul left Game 2 with a groin injury, forcing him to miss at least Game 3, possibly longer. With no point-scorer at their disposal and their season seemingly on the brink, Phoenix must keep hope alive if they want any chance at success against Denver in Game 4.
The Suns have given themselves another shot against the Nuggets by winning Game 3 with a score of 121-114. Devin Booker led his team’s win, scoring 47 points on 20-of-25 shooting while contributing six assists and nine rebounds to their win. Together he and Kevin Durant scored 86 points to lead their team back from falling into an early 3-0 hole; playing with urgency, these two took charge and led their squad towards success.
Nikola Jokic, who placed second in this year’s MVP voting behind Joel Embiid, had an outstanding showing against the Suns with 30 points, 17 assists, and 17 rebounds – an outstanding performance! Jamal Murray led with 32 points, while Michael Porter Jr. contributed 21 points and 12 rebounds for Denver. Despite all their hard work and stat lines though, they fell short and couldn’t take an insurmountable 3-0 lead in their series with Phoenix.
The Nuggets struggled in game three and missed a shot at taking a 3-0 series lead. Tonight they get a shot to pull one win away from the Conference finals, and I think they will. Take the Nuggets +4.
