Maxey can spread the floor, and Philadelphia hopes he can beat his man off the dribble. The health of Embiid will be a significant factor in the team’s success and failure. He’s the best true large man in the league, but the Sixers must manage his minutes to keep him healthy.

The Boston Celtics had to make some difficult decisions to return to the NBA Finals. They suspended Odoku and appointed the 34-year-old Mazulla, the youngest coach in the league, as interim coach. He will have to get more from one of the most skilled teams in the league and the best young wing duo in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Both the dynamic duo worked together on ball-handling or, more specifically, traffic handling. Golden State exposed many of their problems during the NBA Finals, especially Brown’s. In an offseason trade, Boston acquired Malcolm Brodgen, who will play a crucial role in the team’s second unit. Grant Williams and Derrick White are also included. White will be the starting center while Robert Williams II, the often-injured center, recovers from offseason knee surgery. His health could determine the success of Boston in the playoffs.
Last season, the Celtics finished as the Eastern Conference’s best team with a lineup that seamlessly matched players and allowed them to play multiple positions. That will be tested in the opener with Robert Williams II, a defensive stalwart, out for the first two- to three months after knee surgery. Boston will have Horford as the center and Tatum and Brown will be at the forward spots, with White and Smart serving as guards. Williams II is a better interior defensive player. However, Tatum and Brown’s defensive prowess at forward and White & Smart’s at guard make it difficult to dispute. Smart and White can swap spots on the defensive side to harass Harden. Horford is a veteran against Embiid, and Blake Griffin will be able to help him off the bench. Griffin can help Embiid get away from the basket and make him focus on the defensive end. Brogden’s presence adds another 3pt shooter to Boston and, more importantly, a point guard mentality player that can feed Tatum or Brown in the right places. Boston will win the home opener. This is a great matchup between these two teams to compete for the East’s top spots and the division title. These teams are both capable of winning the Eastern Conference this season and will battle each other all season long.
