After a win over Brooklyn on January 17, the Spurs lost 16 consecutive games. With a 102-94 win against Utah on Tuesday, they ended their 16-game losing streak. It was their first road win since December. Keldon Johnson scored 25 points, Doug McDermott scored 19, and Jeremy Sochan scored 13. Johnson scored four points in overtime to secure Tuesday’s win, bringing his season average up to 21.8 points.
In the first game between these two on Oct. 21, the Spurs defeated Indiana 137-134. Blake Wesley, a rookie guard, is averaging 7.3 points per game on 7 of 17 shots over the last three games. The Pacers are going for their third straight win
Indiana was the talk of the town when it opened the campaign with a 23-18 record. But it quickly fell apart after Tyrese Haliburton, star guard, suffered a serious injury. The Pacers lost 16 out of 18 games. Their two wins were against Sacramento and Chicago during that stretch. To get back on track, they have won three of four games since then, including two road wins at Orlando (opening this four-game road trip). The only loss suffered by Indiana since the All-Star break was against Boston in overtime.
The Pacers will conclude their four-game road trip in Chicago Sunday afternoon. They are No. 12 in the Eastern Conference standings and sit two games behind Washington for the final place in the play-in tournament. Haliburton scored 32 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He also dished six assists Tuesday. He is the No. 1 Indiana offensive player. Haliburton averages 20.1 points per game, Myles Turner scores 18.2 points, and Buddy Hield contributes 17.3 points.
