Dallas Mavericks star, Luka Doncic, has created basketball history by becoming the first NBA player to score a 60-point ‘triple-double’. The Slovenian player put in an exceptional performance to help the Mavericks rack up a hard-fought 126-121 overtime win over the New York Knicks.
Doncic is one of the rising stars of the NBA scene and he managed to claim 60 points from 21 rebounds and 10 assists. What made the performance all the more impressive was the way in which the 23-year-old deliberately missed a free throw in the closing stages of the game to get a rebound and then somehow managed to land a jumper to take the game into overtime. In response to his record-breaking performance, Doncic simply said, ‘I’m tired, I need a beer.’
The performance from Doncic guided the Mavericks to their fourth-straight win and many of the best US sports betting sites will be fancying Dallas to rise further up from their sixth-placed spot in the Western Conference.
While the Mavericks are showing increasing resolve as a team, it took something special from Doncic to get the win. The Slovenian star became just the seventh player in NBA history to get a 50-point triple-double and knocked off the legendary Wilt Chamberlain from his place as the youngest player to ever reach this feat.
What’s particularly impressive was the way that Dallas powered their way back into the game. The Knicks had been leading by 110-101 at one point and the visitors looked assured to win the game with less than a minute to go in the final quarter.
But Doncic’s sheer confidence to miss the free throw and land the rebound showed a level of maturity and bravery beyond his years and this gave the Mavericks the boost they needed to get the job done.
It was no surprise to see that Dallas owner, Mark Cuban, was quick to praise the record-breaking star. Cuban tweeted that he had ‘never seen anything like that ever,’ while even Kevin Durant went on to say that Doncic’s exploits were like something from a video game rather than what you get in real life. As such, many betting picks will now have Doncic to fire the Mavericks onto much greater things from here.
Dallas will take plenty of heart from their performance against the Knicks, but there remain some tricky games ahead. The Mavericks next game takes place against Houston Rockets, before an engrossing match-up against the San Antonio Spurs.
These are games that Dallas should win and many Mavericks fans will be picking up sportsbook offers for the team to leapfrog Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference. However, much will depend on whether Doncic can sustain the remarkable form that has seen him land seven triple-doubles in the NBA season so far. But one thing’s for sure and that’s that Doncic has got the whole of the basketball world watching.
