Dallas Mavericks star, Luka Doncic, has created basketball history by becoming the first NBA player to score a 60-point ‘triple-double’. The Slovenian player put in an exceptional performance to help the Mavericks rack up a hard-fought 126-121 overtime win over the New York Knicks.
Doncic is one of the rising stars of the NBA scene and he managed to claim 60 points from 21 rebounds and 10 assists. What made the performance all the more impressive was the way in which the 23-year-old deliberately missed a free throw in the closing stages of the game to get a rebound and then somehow managed to land a jumper to take the game into overtime. In response to his record-breaking performance, Doncic simply said, ‘I’m tired, I need a beer.’

What’s particularly impressive was the way that Dallas powered their way back into the game. The Knicks had been leading by 110-101 at one point and the visitors looked assured to win the game with less than a minute to go in the final quarter.
But Doncic’s sheer confidence to miss the free throw and land the rebound showed a level of maturity and bravery beyond his years and this gave the Mavericks the boost they needed to get the job done.
It was no surprise to see that Dallas owner, Mark Cuban, was quick to praise the record-breaking star. Cuban tweeted that he had ‘never seen anything like that ever,’ while even Kevin Durant went on to say that Doncic’s exploits were like something from a video game rather than what you get in real life.
