This was the year, and that’s what all the Mike Woodson fanboys said. He has his own guys, and it takes a while to build a program. This is the year, they said. Indiana started the season off against four weak opponents and won all four. See, this is the year I told you Woody would figure it out. Will the day before Thanksgiving bring a real opponent. That opponent had a new coach and all new players; surely the Hoosiers win this game because all of the Woody apologists said you can’t win until you have your guys, and it takes transfer portal players a while to jell. I expected an easy Hoosier victory; boy, was I wrong!!! The Woody fanboys were wrong. Mike Woodson can’t coach, and he proves it daily.
Pat Kelsey out-coached Woodson today. Dusty May has Michigan at 4-1, mainly with transfer portal players. The Hoosiers were listless and showed no fight today. Things got so bad that Gabe Cupps got to play! Louisville spread the floor, controlled the tempo, and showed the Hoosiers what a well-coached team looks like.
Indiana scored first in the second half to narrow their deficit to six, but Louisville quickly ramped up their attack and put their foot on the gas pedal.
Louisville scored the next 11 points and launched an overwhelming 37-9 run to lead by as much as 38 points. Louisville shot 66.7 percent in the second half alone and made 17 of 19 attempts during that period; their overall shooting percentage stood at 56.9 percent, with 10-of-27 three-point attempts made successful.
Louisville put forth an outstanding offensive second-half performance and also delivered a more physical defensive performance than they had shown against Tennessee in their prior Power Conference game. They held Indiana to 33.3 percent field shooting, forced 23 overall turnovers with 15 steals created, as well as holding them to just 20 points in the paint compared with their 48 points scored from within their own offensive play area.
Chucky Hepburn led Louisville with a remarkable performance, coming within striking distance of recording a triple-double by scoring 16 points, dishing out a career-high ten assists and recording seven steals. Noah Waterman, Kasean Pryor and Reyne Smith reached double figures in scoring with 16, 14 and 12, respectively.
Louisville set an early defensive tone. Over the first 12 minutes, they held Indiana to 4-of-18 shooting from the field and forced seven turnovers—five coming within four-and-a-half minutes alone! Their stellar defensive play helped make up for their lack of offensive success, as only seven of 19 shots were hit for them, giving Louisville an early 10-point lead.
Indiana lacked discipline and heart, which have been staples of Woodson’s four years of coaching at IU. They will win their share of games because the non-conference schedule is nothing but mid-major teams playing at Assembly Hall. My guess is so the record doesn’t look as bad as the product on the floor. They also lacked any offensive cohesion; the floor was never spaced correctly, and on top of all that, the Hoosiers were not prepared to play this game. Will anything change, my guess is no, this is just a continuation of Woody’s first three years. The Hoosiers have no shot at gaining national relevance as long as Woodson is the coach.
For all those people that support Woody, you cannot be a true Indiana Hoosier basketball fan and support this crap anymore.
