Indiana gets a second chance to show how much its backcourt and bench can change a game when Bellarmine visits Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Thursday night.
The Hoosiers opened with a 91–57 win over Eastern Illinois. Markus Burton led the way with 19 points and five assists, while Bryce Lindsay scored 14 of Indiana’s 40 bench points. Bellarmine lost its opener 93–47 at Vanderbilt. Thursday marks the first regular-season meeting between the programs.
My lean is Indiana −26.5 or better. The number is large, but Indiana’s ability to generate offense with its second unit gives the Hoosiers a way to keep building a lead when Burton sits.

Bellarmine’s best chance to cover starts with getting Indiana into a half-court game. The Knights committed 23 turnovers against Vanderbilt. If that happens again, they’ll spend too much of the night defending before they can get matched up.
Freshman guard DeMarcus Surratt scored a team-high nine points off the bench in the opener. Jacob Wassler added eight, including two threes. Wassler’s ability to step outside gives Bellarmine a way to pull an Indiana big away from the rim and open space for a cutter.
At +26.5, Bellarmine can cover without threatening to win. The Knights need enough clean possessions to prevent one bad stretch from deciding the spread. Their best approach is to make the extra pass when Indiana helps and get back on defense when the shot goes up.
The most encouraging part of Indiana’s opener was how many players contributed. Nine Hoosiers scored at least six points, and freshman Trevor Manhertz supplied 11 off the bench alongside Lindsay’s 14. That depth matters against a big spread because Indiana should have scoring options even if Darian DeVries goes deeper into his rotation.
Burton’s ability to get into the paint gives Indiana a straightforward way to test Bellarmine. If the Knights collapse on him, Lindsay can punish the help from outside. If they stay home on the shooters, Burton can attack the rim or bring Aiden Sherrell into the action as a screener and finisher.
Indiana forced 22 turnovers and scored 29 points off them against Eastern Illinois. There’s a plausible path to another big margin if the Hoosiers can pressure Bellarmine without giving away fouls. The risk comes late: a comfortable lead can shorten the starters’ minutes and give the Knights a chance to cover in the closing stretch.
These are alternate-line targets, not confirmed posted markets. Check availability, expected minutes and price before betting.
Burton scored 19 in the opener, and his ability to get downhill gives him a path to 15 without relying on a hot night from three. The main risk is playing time if Indiana builds a large lead. That makes a lower scoring threshold more appealing than asking him to repeat or exceed Monday’s total.
Lindsay shot 38.2% from three over the past two seasons, according to Indiana’s game notes. If Burton gets into the lane and draws help, Lindsay is a natural outlet. Two makes is the threshold I’d look for, particularly if Lindsay is expected to get meaningful minutes with both the starters and reserves.
Sherrell grabbed six rebounds against Eastern Illinois. If Indiana can force Bellarmine into contested shots without pulling Sherrell too far from the rim, he should get chances to match that number. I’d favor this over a scoring prop if the price is comparable, especially if Indiana spreads its shots around again.
Manhertz scored 11 in his regular-season debut. This is the one Indiana prop that could benefit from the game getting out of hand: if DeVries extends his bench rotation, the freshman may get more opportunities while the starters rest. His role is still developing, so this is a secondary option.
Keep Bellarmine out of transition trouble. The Knights need clean entries into their offense. Live-ball turnovers are the quickest way for Indiana to turn a manageable deficit into a rout.
Make the defense choose. Indiana can use Burton’s drives to test whether Bellarmine will protect the rim or stay attached to Lindsay and the other shooters.
Win the bench minutes. At 26.5 points, the final six to eight minutes can decide the spread even if the winner is already clear.
I’m backing Indiana −26.5 or better. Bellarmine’s turnover problems are the clearest matchup concern, and Indiana already showed it can convert defensive pressure into points. The Hoosiers’ bench scoring is what puts me on the spread: DeVries can rest Burton without taking all of his offensive creation off the floor.
My secondary lean is under 153.5. Indiana can reach the high 80s and still leave room under the number if Bellarmine struggles to score in the half court. The risk is that Indiana gets enough easy baskets off turnovers to push the pace and the total higher. I’d take the spread first and pass if it moves to −28.5 or higher.
Prediction: Indiana 89, Bellarmine 60 — the Hoosiers turn defensive pressure into easy points and cover at Assembly Hall.
