The Big Ten looked a little down headed into this season, but things have changed as the Big Ten looks to be a deep conference with a few teams able to make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament.
The Gophers are the only Big Ten team under .500, and it looks like they will stay that way for the rest of the year.
Although Nebraska isn’t particularly strong, they can still beat any team in the league. The Cornhuskers haven’t suffered a loss yet this season that would be considered a bad loss, and they have a noteworthy top-10 road victory over Creighton. They almost upset Purdue on Saturday, so they are a team that can ruin your evening if you don’t look out for them. Check out the top Basketball odds.
After the shock victory over Michigan State earlier in the month, Spartans fans and the rest of the Big Ten know what Northwestern can do. However, I am still skeptical about this team’s long-term success in the league. The Wildcats, like Nebraska, are dangerous and will cause some upsets. But at the moment, nothing more.
The Wolverines have no big wins yet and have struggled with some mid-major teams. I expected the Wolverines to improve, but I expected them to be good at this point of the season, and I was wrong.
Rutgers is a good team, and they will be a tough out at home, as they already demonstrated to the Indiana Hoosiers. I think the Scarlet Knights will slowly move up these rankings as the year progresses and will challenge for an NCAA Tournament spot.
These power rankings would be higher for a healthy Michigan State team at its full potential. The Spartans are now in a good place after scoring a pair of wins. I think this team ends up top five once they get healthy.
The Hawkeyes were beaten 2 out of three this past week as they beat Iowa State (win) and lost to Duke and Wisconsin. While they won’t be happy with those results, they should be optimistic about the team’s long-term potential. Remember, they are playing without star Kris Murray.
The Nittany Lions won a huge road win over Illinois this weekend and seem talented enough to pick up more similar wins throughout conference play. The Nittany Lions have the feel of an NCAA Tournament team.
Ohio State has enjoyed a quietly great start to the year. The Buckeyes had wins at the Maui Invitational, beating Texas Tech and Cincinnati. They also opened Big Ten play by winning a thrilling win over Rutgers.
Maryland ranks right up there alongside Purdue and Wisconsin as this year’s biggest surprise in the Big Ten. Although the Terps started the year with eight consecutive wins, they did lose their last two games to Tennessee and Wisconsin this week.
It has been an interesting few days for Illinois, who beat No.2 Texas and followed up with a loss to Penn State by double-digits at home. The Fighting Illini are a formidable team with the potential to win the Big Ten. They also have the highest ceiling in the conference. However, they are inconsistent from one game to the next, hindering them from reaching their ceiling. Check out the top basketball betting sites.
Preseason Big Ten favorites have performed admirably so far, with only two slip-ups. Despite not looking great against Arizona, Indiana still has the pieces to win the Big Ten title.
The Badgers are off to a strong start and could be ranked among the top 10 if not for a close loss to Kansas. Wisconsin is again a top Big Ten team.
Purdue has had a fantastic start to the season with a perfect record of 10-0. This includes notable wins over Marquette, Gonzaga, West Virginia and Duke.
