The Mecca 2026 TBT Team Preview: Long Beach's Elite Pro-Am Ready to Compete for the $2 Million Championship

Every summer, The Basketball Tournament (TBT) showcases some of the best alumni teams, professional organizations, and independent programs in a winner-take-all competition unlike any other. In 2026, one of the West Coast’s most intriguing entries is The Mecca, a Long Beach-based program that has become synonymous with elite competition, player development, and Southern California basketball excellence.

Representing Long Beach, California, The Mecca Pro-Am has established itself as one of the premier basketball organizations in the region by bringing together top professional, overseas, and former collegiate players. Built within one of Southern California’s most passionate basketball communities, The Mecca has earned a reputation for producing high-level talent while fostering a relentless competitive culture.

Now, that winning tradition heads to Las Vegas as The Mecca looks to capture TBT’s $2 million winner-take-all championship. Featuring experienced veterans, dynamic guards, and an athletic frontcourt, this roster has all the ingredients needed to make a serious run through one of basketball’s toughest tournaments.

The Mecca’s Identity in TBT

Unlike traditional alumni teams built around one university, The Mecca assembles talented professionals from across the basketball world. The roster includes players with experience in Russia, Taiwan, Mexico, the Middle East, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and numerous professional leagues throughout North America.

The team’s identity revolves around explosive guard play, offensive creativity, and veteran leadership. Multiple ball handlers can create their own shots, push the pace in transition, and generate scoring opportunities for teammates, while versatile forwards and an experienced center provide balance inside.

With outstanding speed, perimeter shooting, and proven professional experience, The Mecca has the versatility to thrive in both fast-paced games and half-court battles.

Key Strengths

Elite Backcourt

The Mecca boasts one of the tournament’s deepest collections of guards. Casper Ware Jr., Lamar Peters, Tarin Smith, Garrett Nevels, and Marvelle Harris all possess the ability to score, distribute, and create offense, making the team difficult to defend.

Professional Experience

Nearly every player on the roster has competed professionally overseas or in high-level domestic leagues. That experience provides confidence, composure, and the ability to perform under pressure during TBT’s single-elimination format.

Offensive Firepower

With multiple proven scorers capable of taking over games, The Mecca can attack defenses from every area of the floor. Their balance makes it difficult for opponents to focus on stopping just one player.

The 2026 The Mecca Roster

Garrett Nevels

Nevels enters TBT following a successful professional season with Uralmash Yekaterinburg in Russia. The former Hawaii standout is a proven scorer who excels from beyond the arc while also providing strong perimeter defense and veteran leadership.

Casper Ware Jr.

One of the most accomplished players in the tournament, Ware returns after starring for CSKA Moscow in Russia. The former Long Beach State standout has built an outstanding international career through his elite scoring ability, exceptional ball handling, and clutch shot-making.

His leadership and experience make him one of The Mecca’s most valuable players.

Van Girard II

Girard represents the heart of Long Beach basketball after competing with LA Cheaters. The versatile wing provides athleticism, perimeter defense, and valuable toughness while contributing on both ends of the floor.

Terrell Carter II

Standing 6-foot-10, Carter anchors the frontcourt after playing professionally for Igokea. The former Fresno State center provides rebounding, rim protection, interior scoring, and the physical presence needed to compete against TBT’s top big men.

Marvelle Harris

Harris joins the roster following a successful season with Al Naser Dubai. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard brings explosive scoring ability, perimeter shooting, and the athleticism to defend multiple positions.

Tarin Smith

Smith provides another experienced playmaker after competing with Los Angeles Ignite. Following collegiate stops at Nebraska, Duquesne, and UConn, the veteran guard offers ball handling, leadership, and the versatility to play either guard position.

Lamar Peters

Peters arrives after playing professionally with Caballeros de Culiacán in Mexico. The former Mississippi State point guard is known for his quickness, passing ability, and offensive creativity while serving as an excellent floor general.

Brandon Moss

The athletic 6-foot-9 forward enters TBT following his professional season with the Yulon Luxgen Dinos in Taiwan. Moss contributes size, rebounding, defensive versatility, and the ability to score around the basket while stretching opposing defenses.

Mark Carter

Carter rounds out the roster after competing for Prosper & Conquer in the Mecca Pro-Am. The 6-foot-6 shooting guard provides additional perimeter scoring, athleticism, and defensive intensity while adding valuable depth to the rotation.

Coaching Staff and Front Office

The Mecca is led by head coach Casper Ware, whose extensive professional playing career provides invaluable leadership and basketball knowledge throughout the tournament.

Stephen Almquist serves as the organization’s general manager, sponsor, and owner, helping build one of Southern California’s premier basketball programs while assembling a roster capable of competing for a TBT championship.

Assistant coaches Tim Austin, Ervin Ware, Richard Clay, and Russell Brown bring additional experience and player development expertise while helping prepare the team for the challenges of TBT’s winner-take-all format.

Together, the coaching staff combines professional experience, strategic preparation, and strong player relationships that position The Mecca for success throughout the tournament.

Why The Mecca Can Win TBT

Outstanding Guard Play

Few teams possess the depth and talent of The Mecca’s backcourt. Multiple experienced guards can create offense, control the tempo, and take over games during critical moments.

Championship-Level Experience

The roster includes veterans who have competed in some of the world’s best professional leagues. That experience should prove invaluable during the pressure-packed moments that define TBT.

Offensive Versatility

With shooters, playmakers, athletic wings, and an experienced center, The Mecca has the personnel to attack opponents in a variety of ways depending on the matchup.

Areas That Need Improvement

Interior Depth

While Terrell Carter II provides a strong presence in the paint, maintaining consistent rebounding and rim protection against larger frontcourts will be important throughout the tournament.

Defensive Consistency

The Mecca has plenty of athletic defenders, but maintaining consistent defensive intensity for forty minutes will be essential against TBT’s elite competition.

Team Chemistry

With players arriving from different professional leagues around the world, developing chemistry quickly will be a key factor in the team’s tournament success.

2026 Outlook

The Mecca enters the 2026 TBT as one of the tournament’s most dangerous independent teams. Their combination of elite guard play, experienced professionals, and offensive firepower gives them the ability to compete with anyone in the field.

If the roster develops chemistry early while receiving consistent interior production, The Mecca has every opportunity to make a deep run and contend for the tournament’s $2 million grand prize.

Conclusion

The Mecca brings together the best of Southern California basketball with an accomplished roster of professional talent from around the world. Representing Long Beach’s rich basketball tradition, the organization combines experienced leadership, dynamic guard play, and versatile scoring to form one of the most exciting teams in the 2026 TBT field.

Led by head coach Casper Ware and supported by a veteran coaching staff, The Mecca has the talent, depth, and experience to challenge every opponent in Las Vegas. If the team quickly develops chemistry and plays to its strengths, Long Beach’s premier Pro-Am program has the potential to make a memorable run toward the 2026 TBT championship and the $2 million winner-take-all prize.
