AfterShocks vs. The Enchantment Prediction & Matchup Preview

One of the more intriguing opening-round series in The Basketball Tournament features AfterShocks (Wichita State Alumni) taking on The Enchantment (New Mexico Alumni). While Wichita State brings one of the deepest and most experienced alumni rosters in this year’s tournament, New Mexico enters with an emerging squad looking to establish itself on the TBT stage.

All three games of the best-of-three series will be played inside Charles Koch Arena, giving the AfterShocks a significant home-court advantage in front of one of college basketball’s most passionate fan bases. The familiar surroundings and strong local support have made Wichita one of the premier TBT destinations year after year.

AfterShocks once again feature a roster loaded with former Shockers and accomplished professional players who have competed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.

Veteran point guard Conner Frankamp returns after another successful season with the New Taipei CTBC DEA in Taiwan. Frankamp remains one of the tournament’s premier shooters and floor generals, capable of controlling the tempo while stretching defenses well beyond the three-point line.

Marcus Keene gives Wichita another dynamic scoring option. The explosive point guard has built an impressive international career, most recently playing for SIG Strasbourg in France. His ability to score from anywhere on the floor makes him one of the most dangerous offensive players in TBT.

The frontcourt combines athleticism, versatility, and physical play. Rashard Kelly returns after playing professionally in Japan with the Aomori Watts, bringing elite rebounding and defensive versatility. Morris Udeze, who has collegiate ties to both Wichita State and New Mexico, provides interior toughness after competing professionally in Poland with King Szczecin. Marcus Santos-Silva adds another physical presence after playing in the Czech Republic with Basketball Nymburk.

The wings offer excellent balance as Markis McDuffie returns following another successful season in France with JDA Dijon. McDuffie has long been one of the faces of the AfterShocks program, providing scoring, leadership, and defensive versatility. Trey Wade contributes additional length and athleticism after playing professionally in Poland, while Nike Sibande gives Wichita another experienced scorer after competing in Germany.

James Woodard rounds out one of the tournament’s deepest backcourts. The former Tulsa standout has extensive international experience and provides another reliable perimeter scorer capable of taking pressure off Frankamp and Keene.

With a roster filled with veteran professionals, Wichita State once again enters TBT as a legitimate championship contender.

The Enchantment enters the tournament representing New Mexico basketball with a roster still taking shape. Although the Lobos’ alumni squad lacks the depth currently found on Wichita State’s roster, it features one of the nation’s most exciting young guards.

Donovan Dent headlines The Enchantment after transferring to UCLA following an outstanding career at New Mexico. Dent developed into one of college basketball’s premier point guards, combining elite speed, playmaking ability, and scoring instincts. His ability to attack off the dribble and create opportunities for teammates gives The Enchantment a player capable of changing the game every time he touches the basketball.

While additional roster announcements are expected, Dent immediately provides New Mexico with a dynamic offensive centerpiece capable of competing against any backcourt in TBT.

Supported by sponsor New Mexico Early Learning Academy, The Enchantment hopes to establish itself as a new contender while building excitement around New Mexico basketball and its passionate fan base.

The Matchup Context: Wichita State’s Depth vs. Donovan Dent’s Playmaking

AfterShocks possess advantages throughout nearly every position thanks to their veteran experience and exceptional depth. With multiple professional guards, versatile forwards, and physical interior defenders, Wichita State can attack opponents in a variety of ways while maintaining fresh legs throughout the series.

The Enchantment’s biggest strength begins with Donovan Dent. His speed, creativity, and offensive production make him one of the most talented individual players in the tournament. If Dent consistently creates scoring opportunities and pushes the pace, New Mexico could force Wichita State into an up-tempo game.

However, Wichita’s experience, depth, and defensive versatility give the Shockers multiple defenders capable of making Dent work throughout the series.

Controlling tempo will likely determine the outcome. If AfterShocks dictate a physical half-court game, their depth should wear down New Mexico. If Dent can speed up the pace and create transition opportunities, The Enchantment could keep the series competitive.

Players to Watch

AfterShocks (Wichita State Alumni)

Conner Frankamp: Elite shooter and veteran point guard who controls the offense.

Marcus Keene: Dynamic scorer capable of putting up points in a hurry.

Markis McDuffie: Versatile forward whose leadership and two-way play make him one of Wichita’s most valuable players.

Rashard Kelly: Outstanding rebounder and defensive specialist who impacts every possession.

Morris Udeze: Physical interior presence with ties to both Wichita State and New Mexico, making this matchup especially meaningful.

The Enchantment (New Mexico Alumni)

Donovan Dent: Electric point guard with elite speed, playmaking ability, and scoring instincts capable of carrying the Lobos offensively.

The Verdict

Prediction: AfterShocks win the series 2-0

Wichita State enters this series with one of the deepest and most experienced rosters in The Basketball Tournament. Nearly every player has extensive professional experience, and the combination of Frankamp, Keene, McDuffie, Kelly, and Udeze gives the Shockers multiple ways to win.

Donovan Dent is talented enough to keep New Mexico competitive and could produce one of the tournament’s best individual performances. However, asking one player to overcome Wichita State’s depth, experience, and home-court advantage will be a difficult task.

Playing every game inside Charles Koch Arena only strengthens AfterShocks’ position. Their familiarity with the venue and tremendous fan support should help them control the pace and capitalize on their superior depth.

Expect Donovan Dent to deliver several highlight plays, but Wichita State’s balanced roster should ultimately prove too much over the course of the series.

Series Pick: AfterShocks advance 2-0

Key Advantage: Wichita State’s veteran depth, professional experience, and home-court advantage at Charles Koch Arena.
