9) The Longest yard

Burt Reynolds is cast as a former NFL QB who gets jailed for drunk driving. Eddie Albert is the football-loving warden who gets him to form and coach a team of convicts to play his guards in an exhibition game. The game is hilarious and full of surprises if you have never seen it, and it blows away the remake made a few years ago.

8) Bull Durham

First-time director Ron Shelton effortlessly balances the (literally) inside baseball satire and the funny sex comedy and gets outstanding performances out of his flawless cast.

This Bowling movie had a crude sense of gross-out humor that would be off-putting if it weren’t so consistently, embarrassingly funny. You have Woody Harrelson as the Bowling prodigy who loses his hand; Randy Quaid becomes his Amish prodigy and Bill Murray as the villain bowler.

6) Bad News Bears

This is a movie that would never be allowed today as you have Morris Buttermaker, the foul-mouthed, hard-drinking, washed-up former baseball player who coaches a Little League team, made up entirely of the freaks and oddballs that no one else wants.

5) Slapshot

This movie probably wouldn’t be allowed to be made these days, but these days suck anyways. Paul Newman stars as a player-coach of the Johnstown Chiefs, a down on their luck team about to relocate to Florida. The movie goes over the top with the arrival of the Hanson brothers, who bring a little fresh energy to the Chiefs.
