10 Sal Bando

During the A’s championship years of 1971-75, he captained the team and led the club in runs batted in three times. He was the second American League third baseman to hit 200 career home runs, joining Brooks Robinson, and retired among the all-time leaders in games (5th, 1896), assists (6th, 3720), and double plays (7th, 345) at his position.

9) Bert Campernaris

Campy played an integral part in the A’s dynasty of the 1970s. He was a 6-time all-star, a 6-time stolen base leader, and collected close to 2,000 career hits.

8) Rollie Fingers

Fingers won three world series with the A’s, including world series MVP in 1974. Fingers were often brought in relief in the 6th or 7th inning to close games out.

7) Dave Stewart

Stewart’s career took off under Oakland’s pitching coach Dave Duncan and he became one of the most imposing pitchers in the history of the A’s. He was at his best in the clutch in a must-win game.

6) Jim “Catfish” Hunter

Catfish Hunter was an eight-time all-star, five-time world series champion, and Cy Young award, winner. Hunter was at his best in the big games and was a large contributor to the A’s dynasty of the 1970s.

5) Vida Blue

Blue was the hardest thrower this side of Nolan Ryan in the 1970s. Blue captured the Cy Young and MVP in 1971, pitched a no-hitter in 1970, and was a six-time all-star (three times with the A’s).

4) Mark McGwire

McGwire was part of the “Bash Brothers” team that went to three-straight World Series and won it all in 1989. McGwire in his career with the A’s hit 363 home runs and drove in 941 runs.

3) Reggie Jackson

Jackson was a heck of a player. In ten seasons for the A’s he racked up six all-star selections, an MVP, a world series MVP, and three world series rings.

2) Dennis Eckersley

Initially a starter, Eckersley became the A’s closer when their all-star Jay Howell was sidelined with an injury in 1987. For the next five seasons, he established himself as the top closer in baseball. In 1992 he won the AL Cy Young and MVP. He was selected as a member of the all-star team four times between 1988-1992.

1) Rickey Henderson

Henderson is the all-time major league baseball leader in walks, runs, stolen bases, and leadoff home runs. His awards included ten all-star selections, a gold glove, and an MVP trophy.
