The Chicago White Sox began the season as maybe the biggest disappointment in baseball. This team was several games behind first in theย American League Central, and there was plenty of speculation about their future.
They’re now at 61-56, one game behind the Cleveland Guardians and in first place in the division.
According to MLB.com, there was plenty to say from White Sox players.
โGet him in the zone. The main thing. First and second, I want to get the ball in the air,โ Sheets said of his thought process as he stepped in for Lenyn Sosa. โI didnโt want to hit something on the ground and get a double play.
โHe went to the breaking ball, and my main thought was get something in the air and get something in the strike zone. I was able to do that, and I was just hoping Seby was going to score.โโItโs a different kind of pat on the back, five innings, he gutted it out,โ La Russa said. โHe threw a lot of pitches because he wasnโt sharp and theyโre good. Iโll remember this one when I think about him a long time because [it could have been], โMan, itโs not my day.โ Thatโs not what he did.โโI was disappointed. It wasnโt my sharpest outing,โ said Cease, who threw 93 pitches. โBut it was close enough to keep us in it, and everybody else picked me up. Getting the win definitely helps.โVerlander wasnโt too happy with how he pitched, according to MLB.com:โIt doesnโt matter top of the order, the bottom of the order, middle of the order, I donโt like giving up runs, especially in that situation late like that,โ Verlander said. โNot happy about it.โ
The White Sox seem to be putting it all together and have a legit shot at winning the AL Central. Can they make a deep postseason run? My guess is no, but if you have to get in to get a shot at it, this team looks like they could be headed to the postseason.
