How about this for a what if? What if Rice wasn’t hurt and could have played in the 1975 World Series? We will never know, but what we do know is that Rice was a Red Sox legend. Rice was an 8-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner.

9) Jimmie Foxx

Foxx arrived in Boston in the prime of his career and set a club record of 50 home runs in a season that stood until David Ortiz broke it in 2006. Foxx made five All-Star teams and finished in the top 10 in AL MVP voting three times (winning in ’38 and finishing second in ’39).

8) Wade Boggs

Boggs was an eight-time All-Star, a five-time AL batting champion, a four-time finisher in AL MVP voting top-10s, and a six-time Silver Slugger over his 11 seasons with Boston. Boggs was one of the best hitters in Baseball during the decade of the 80s and had a streak of 7 straight 200 hit seasons which at that time was a record.

7) Manny Ramirez

Ramirez played eight seasons with the Red Sox and he was an all-star every one of those seasons. Manny also won the AL batting title in 2002, the 2004 World Series MVP, and the 2004 AL Hank Aaron Award.

6) Cy Young

Cy may have been the best pitcher on this list but he is ranked third because his time with the Red Sox was at the end of his career. He won a World Series in 1903 and pitched the first perfect game in American League history.

5) Tris Speaker

Speaker won two World Championships as a Red Sox and was a power-hitter back in his day. Power hitter back then meant a ton of doubles and triples in oversized ballparks. Check out the best new sites for betting on baseball!

4) Pedro Martinez

Martinez was a six-time All-Star in Boston, he also won two Cy Young awards and finished top-5 in another three. He also had two top-5 finishes in AL MVP voting, Martinez finished second in 1999. Remember Martinez did this all in the steroid era of baseball.

3) Carl Yazstremski

Yaz took over for Williams and was a damn good replacement. Yaz is most known for his 1967 season when he won the triple-crown and led the underdog Red Sox to the World Series where they lost a classic 7 game series to the St.Louis Cardinals. Yaz was an 18-time All-Star. He won three AL batting titles, finished top-10 for the AL MVP four times, and won six Gold Gloves.

2) Roger Clemens

Clemens had an incredible 13 year run in Boston. Clemens won three AL Cy Young Awards and had six top-10 AL Cy Young seasons. Clemens was a five-time All-Star with the Red Sox and won the AL MVP in 1986 and finished third in voting in 1990.

1). Ted Williams

To me this is a no-brainer, Williams was the greatest hitter in baseball history. Williams was a 19-time All-Star for the Red Sox, Williams also won two AL MVPs and finished in the top-10, 10 other times. He won six AL batting titles and four home run crowns. Williams was the last man to bat over .400 in a season when he batted .406 in 1941.
