Only retired players are considered. This list considers anybody who ever played for the Milwaukee Braves and the Atlanta Braves.
Glavine ranks fourth on the Braves list in innings pitched with 3,408 and in wins 244. He has 56 complete games and 25 strikeouts. Glavine was known for painting the corners.
Jones hit 368 home runs in an Atlanta Braves uniform. Jones had an incredible run of 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards during his stay in Atlanta. Jones was one of the greatest all-around center fielders in MLB history.
Among switch hitters, Jones ranks second behind Eddie Murray for career RBI, and he is the only switch hitter in MLB history with a career batting average of at least .300 and 400 or more home runs.
Smoltz accumulated 210 wins as a starter as well as 154 saves as a closer. His 3,011 strikeouts rank him first on the Braves’ all-time list. Smoltz also has a Cy Young Award and is also an eight-time All-Star selection.
Murphy hit 398 career home runs. He won consecutive Most Valuable Player Awards (1982-83), the National League’s Silver Slugger Award four straight years (1982-85), and the National League’s Gold Glove Award five straight years from (1982-86).
Niekro is third all-time in Braves’ history in wins with 268. He also has 2,912 strikeouts and 44 shutouts, which both rank him second in Braves’ history.
Maddux won 194 of his 355 career wins with the Atlanta Braves. He has 1,828 strikeouts rank him fifth in Braves’ history, and his 2.63 era is also good for fifth. Maddox won an incredible 18 Golden Gloves in his career and goes down as the greatest fielding pitcher of all time.
Matthews ranks as one of the greatest third basemen of all time and he is second in Braves’ history with 493 home runs and is second in RBI with 1,388. Matthews helped to lead the Braves to back-to-back World Series in 1957 and 1958.
Spahn ranks first in a number of categories, which include: innings pitched with 5,046, wins with 356, shutouts with 63, and games started with 635. Spahn ranks as the greatest Braves pitcher ever and that’s saying a lot when you look at the rest of this list.
Number one is easy as you have a man with over 3700 career hits and 755 Home runs. Throw in these stats 2,202, at-bats with 11,628, games with 3,076, and total bases with 6,591, and you have the greatest Braves player ever.
