NLDS Game 3 Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets: Odds, Tips and Predictions 10-08-24

On Sunday afternoon in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies evened up their series thanks to a walk-off home run from Nick Castellanos that sealed victory 7-6.

Now, the Phillies find themselves in an uncertain spot on the road against an indomitable New York squad that has refused to surrender this season.

Aaron Nola will start for Philadelphia in his first postseason game this season against Sean Manaea of New York, who started during their Wild Card loss to Milwaukee Brewers.

Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets

• Run Line: Phillies -1.5
• Moneyline Phillies -112
• Moneyline Mets -104
• Over/Under 7.5

Nola threw a complete game shutout in his first start against the Mets, allowing just four hits and striking out eight. Then, on Sept. 13, he gave up six hits and six runs in 4.1 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Manaea has a 5.40 ERA in three starts against the Phillies this season, posting two strong outings with a blowup performance back on June 8 sandwiched in between.

The Mets have come from behind time and time again in the regular season and playoffs, but they couldn’t get over the hump in Game 2?

Does this play style come back to haunt them?

I have difficulty fading either of these teams since the Phillies are 21-12 in Nola’s starts and the Mets are 23-10 in Manaea’s starts.

I am taking the never-say-die Mets in this one; all the pressure is on the Phillies.

Phillies vs Mets Over/Under Analysis

This over/under of 7.5 is not a lot of runs. I will bet the over, figuring that the Mets will score at least five runs on their own and the Phillies will get theirs to expect most runs scored later in the game.

Prediction

The Mets have a pitching advantage in this game, especially in the Bullpen, and I look for the Mets to jump out early and coast home to victory. Mets 6  Phillies 4.
