Michael King has quickly emerged as the Padres’ go-to pitcher this season, especially with Joe Musgrove out. King was impressive in his first playoff start against the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card round, pitching seven scoreless innings without showing signs of nerves.
The Padres need him to step up again, and even six innings with no more than three runs allowed should be enough for victory.
King was spectacular in his last regular-season start against the Dodgers, pitching 12 scoreless innings while giving up only five hits and striking out 14. In both previous appearances against them, he had utterly outshone them.
King has been on fire since early May, and it should come as no surprise that he will continue this performance. If his form continues, he will likely shut down the Dodgers yet again.
The Padres have displayed impressive offense in these playoffs, scoring nine runs over two games against the Atlanta Braves before notching 15 runs in their initial two matches against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
At their regular season pace, the Padres had an outstanding 77-13 record when scoring at least four runs – this should provide more than enough run support to King and help seal victory in Game 3.
