MLB Power Rankings for 7/5/22

Top Ten!

10. Minnesota Twins

While the Twins lead the AL Central, the division-favorite White Sox are playing better. They need more arms to complete their team. If they want to win the division, they must be big-time buyers at the trade deadline. They are an entertaining team and hold the top spot in their division. 9. Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are leading MLB in OPS this season. They also scored a league-leading 170 runs in June. Their offense is the reason Toronto will play Baseball in October. The pitching has its doubts.

8. St. Louis Cardinals

Last week, the Cardinals hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back home runs for just the 11th time in history. While they would be better served with another arm in their rotation, their offense — led by the MVP frontrunner — keeps them in the thick of the NL Central.

7. Milwaukee Brewers

Milwaukee is a powerhouse on the pitching side, a departure for the Brewers. The Brewers had been without two of their three significant pitchers for a while. But now, they have Brandon Woodruff back to form a 1-2 punch along with Corbin Burnes. They haven’t missed a beat.

6. San Diego Padres

The Padres were just a few outs away from being swept in a four-game series against the Dodgers. They battled back to win Sunday and saved themselves from losing a series against division rivals. As the Padres lead Baseball in strikeouts, their pitching has been exceptional. They will need Fernando Tatis Jr to compete with the Dodgers in the NL West.

5. New York Mets

The Mets need Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer to return in a hurry with the Atlanta Braves breathing down their necks. After a disappointing performance against the Houston Astros, I had to drop the Mets. But they can quickly rebound with their co-aces ready to return. Check out the best new sportsbooks for betting on Baseball!

4. Atlanta Braves

My Power Rankings show that the Braves have surpassed the Mets for the first time since the start of the season. They won 21 games in June to tie a franchise record and reduced the Mets’ lead in their division by eight games. While the Mets remain in first place in the NL East standings, the Braves are currently the team you would least like to cross paths with.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers

While the Dodgers have their issues with injuries, we saw just how strong they were and how deep they have when playing the Padres. The Dodgers won the series, the largest of both teams’ seasons. Although they didn’t have their best month, it’s clear that they are one the most talented teams in Baseball.

2. Houston Astros

The Astros have been a power lately, evident for the past week and a half. The Astros were forced to play the best team from each league for nine consecutive games during a strange stretch in their schedule. They had to first play at home, then go on the road, then home against the Yankees and Mets. The Astros proved just how great they are during that stretch. They were 7-2 and dominated every aspect of the game.

1. New York Yankees

Despite the Yankees losing three out of five games against the Astros, I don’t think the Astros will be the best team this week. The Yankees are on pace for breaking the MLB wins record. Despite narrowing the gap between the first- and second places, the Yankees remain the best team in Baseball. This season they have a remarkable 34-9 home record, which is the best in Baseball.
