On Tuesday evening in Kansas City, the Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Royals continue their interleague series against each other with game time scheduled for 8:10 PM EST. Both teams are in transition as they look towards rebuilding with young talented stars that may shape baseball’s future—pitching matchup between lefty Brandon Williamson (0-0, 5.40) from Cincinnati facing righty Jordan Lyles (0-10, 6.84). The first pitch is scheduled at 8:10 PM EST.
The Royals are currently engaged in a rebuild, featuring promising youngsters like Bobby Witt Jr, Vinnie Pasquantino and MJ Melendez on their major league squad. Unfortunately, the results haven’t been too positive. They entered this series with six consecutive losses and nine in their last ten contests, holding the second-worst record in baseball entering Monday night’s play.
On Tuesday night, Jordan Lyles will make the start for the Royals. Unfortunately, Lyles has had an unfavorable start this year with ten straight losses and an ERA of 6.84 in 13 starts with a K/9 rate of 6.9 and WHIP of 1.29; 18 home runs have already been allowed! At home, he is winless through 7 starts with an ERA of 5.23, with his K/9 rate rising slightly to 6.9 and his WHIP reduced slightly to 1.12; 11 of his 18 home runs have come at Kauffman Stadium!
On Tuesday night, the Reds will send lefty Brandon Williamson out for Game Two of this series. Williamson has made five starts this year and posted an ERA of 5.40 during his rookie campaign in Major League Baseball. His K/9 rate stands at 7.1, and his WHIP has been 1.43 this year; four out of his five starts have resulted in Reds wins.
Last season, Cincinnati introduced young starters like Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo. This season has brought them more young talent, such as SS Matt McLain and top prospect Elly De La Cruz, altthe future looks promising and Cincinnati and this team could win the NL Central this season.
The Reds have been playing superior baseball over recent weeks and should keep Lyles winless on Tuesday night. Lyles’ penchant for giving up long balls should play in their favor against a Royals lineup hitting just.240 against lefties this season while scoring only 1.6 runs per game in their last five contests heading into Monday’s series opener against them. Meanwhile, Reds pitcher Williamson has won four out of his five starts. KC have only managed nine home wins this year, take the Reds on the Money Line.
