The American League Championship Series continues Thursday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Tex. On Wednesday night, Houston earned their first victory of this series over the Texas Rangers in Game 3. Still leading 2-1 after three games played, this has resulted in over 70% of times throughout MLB history for them to claim victory and advance further.
The Astros now look to even out their series against Texas while hoping to secure victory at home and secure pennant victory.
Heaney last appeared in the postseason during Game 1 of the ALDS in Baltimore, where he allowed one earned run over 3 2/3 innings. Over 34 appearances (28 starts), during 147 1/3 innings pitched during regular season 2023, he posted a 4.15 ERA while facing off against Astros four times and allowed six runs over 19 2/3 innings (2.75 ERA).
The Astros owned the Rangers at Globe Life field during the regular season, sweeping the Rangers in a late-season series; they continued this dominance in game three on the Rangers field.
Few teams have managed to stop the Rangers’ bats from swinging freely lately. Look for the Astros to do just that on Thursday again with their backs against the wall; very few teams have come back from a 2-0 deficit in a best-of-seven series, but this veteran Astros team Is capable.
Urquidy has posted an impressive 3.64 ERA over 42 innings across eight career postseason appearances (seven starts). Since returning from a right shoulder injury in early August, he has pitched in several significant games — and won.
Heaney kept the Baltimore Orioles to one run over 3 2/3 innings during their ALDS matchup against Texas. At the same time, Urquidy came within one out of recording a quality start against the Minnesota Twins during Houston’s ALDS matchup against Houston. To be clear: the Astros have been unstoppable this year at Globe Life Field, including Game 3, winning all seven contests played there! Expect that trend to continue.
