Bob Knight will go down as one of the greatest coaches to ever live, he garnered the love and trust of his players and the people who were on his side. The People of Indiana loved the man for winning the right way and never compromising his values. Today we will look at the wit and wisdom of the legendary Bob Knight.
“I don’t have to wait until the next morning to regret something I did that was kinda dumb.”
Coach Knight, as all of us do, had faults, and he knew it.
“Son, my name isn’t Knight to you, it’s Coach Knight or it’s Mr. Knight. I don’t call people by their last name and neither should you.”
I understand and hate this also, it may not seem like a big deal to most, but it was to Coach Knight.
“All of us learn to write in the second grade. Most of us go on to greater things.”
Maybe I should not think this is funny, but it is! It’s also very true!
“If my primary purpose here at Indiana is to go out and win ballgames, I can probably do that as well as anybody can. I would just cheat, get some money from a lot of people around Indianapolis who want to run the operation that way, and just go out and get the best basketball players I can. Then we’d beat everybody.”
This is so true, especially in the 70s when many were cheating. Knight never cheated and always played by the rules, if he didn’t the NCAA would have loved to nail him for it.
“If I came in to recruit your son, I would tell you, your wife and your son that I will be the most demanding coach your son can play for.”
Knight expected excellence from his players and everybody around him. He would accept nothing less.
βIf the NBA was on channel five and a bunch of frogs making love were on channel four, Iβd watch the frogs, even if they were coming in fuzzy.β
Knight was not a fan of the NBA, and this quote is more appropriate today than ever.
“The key is not the ‘will to win’…everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important.”
This was probably Coach Knight’s most used quote, and as always, he nailed this.
“When my time on earth is gone, and my activities here are passed, I want they bury me upside down, and my critics can kiss my ass!”
My favorite quote it brought down the house when he originally said it and it rings even truer today!
