Austin Wynns off to a good start with the San Francisco Giants

Last week, the San Francisco Giants made a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies. The Giants traded catcher Austin Wynns from San Diego, California, for left-handed minor league pitcher Michael Plassmeyer from St. Louis, Missouri, and cash. The Giants acquired Wynns because Joey Bart, their catcher, was sent to Sacramento. Check out the best bookmakers for betting on the Giants.

Wynns’ Offensive Impact

Although it was a small sample, Wynns seems to have made the most of his time with the Giants. After four games, he is currently batting.417. Wynns had five hits in 12 at-bats. He also collected one double and one run batted in. One walk was also recorded, and he scored one run. His on-base percentage is.462 while his slugging percentage is.500.

Triple-A to begin the season in 2022

Wynns started the 2022 baseball season at Triple-A. After three seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, Wynns signed with the Phillies in March 2022. However, he never played for Philadelphia. Wynns’ batting average was.365 in 33 games with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. He had three home runs and 20 RBIs. In 104 at-bats, he had 38 hits.

The Orioles Struggles

In his three seasons, Wynns’s batting average in Baltimore was.216 and 185, respectively. The Giants’ scouting team liked Wynns’ performance in Baltimore’s highest minor league system, so they decided to demote Bart and purchase a back stopper with no offensive record-up until now.

Bart’s Struggles

Bart wasn’t very good this season for San Francisco. Before his move to Sacramento, Bart was only hitting.156 in 90 at-bats. This decreased from the.333 average in just two games in 2021.

Michael Plassmeyer

Plassmeyer will benefit from a change of scenery, the Phillies hope. The southpaw had a terrible time with Sacramento in 2022. He was 0-6 with an earned runs average of 7.38.

Phillies Want to Turn it Around

The Phillies started having a difficult start to the month when Jean Segura was injured and looks unable to play for three months. The Phillies fired Joe Girardi as manager and hired Rob Thomson to replace him. Rob Thomson has been 9-1 since then. Philadelphia is currently 31-30 and in third place in National League East. According to Caesars Sportsbook, the odds of the Phillies winning the World Series are +3300

Moving forward

Austin Wynns looks to be the backup for the time being as Curt Casali (hamstring) is started at catcher over Wynns on Wednesday night. Wynns had started the past four games and five of his first six with the Giants, but Casali’s return likely puts Wynns in a backup role moving forward.

Giants Remain in Contention In Tough NL West

San Francisco remains in contention in the National League West. They are currently at 34-26 and three games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers (and San Diego Padres) for the lead in the division. According to fanduel, their odds of winning the World Series are +2800
