5 Professional Athletes Who Went Back To Education

The importance of education!

Higher education is a hell of a ride for anyone. College students have to attend lectures, live campus life, and find the strength for writing an essay for each and every professor. Lots of responsibilities and no free time. This sort of lifestyle always puts its toll, but that is also one of the things you have to endure to get that diploma.

So, imagine what athletes are going through when it comes to higher education. Academic pressure is coupled with constant training, different competitions, and so on! That’s why it is quite common among professional athletes to drop education to pursue careers, which makes sense at some point. However, there are lots of professional athletes with college degrees, and I’m going to talk a little about them.

Why overlooking college education may be a bad idea

Let’s begin with a simple question – why is it important to have a degree for athletes? The answer is – one injury can end a career in a painful and abrupt way, so there’s a need for a backup plan. One might say that it’s impossible to study and train, but that’s not true. There are things as assistance for students, peer help in study, and so on.

Anyway, athletes going through their college education are busy, and if they cannot handle some difficulties, they look for online help at websites such as Writix assistance. Online helpers are able to assist with an essay, assignment, or personal statement help – anything, basically. The thing is that education is recognized as an important factor to a good life, so even professional sportspeople are going back to college.

Five the well-known athletes with a degree

Duncan Watmore

Duncan Watmore is an English professional football player, who was born in 1994. His professional career began quite early, so this naturally meant that he had to miss college. However, he decided to continue education during athletes career, so Sunderland got him time off to work on an Economics degree and catch up to the curriculum and everything he missed because of football.

David Wetherall

Yet another British football player, David Wetherall’s professional career began in 1991 in Leeds United. However, he knew why is important to have degree for athletes and finished education in 1992 to get a degree in chemistry despite the pressure of professional football. Actually, he was the first Premier League player who graduated with a first-class degree. That is quite impressive!

Shaquille O’Neal

A legend of the NBA, Shaquille left college quite early to fully commit to his rise in the NBA. Nonetheless, he decided to return to college eight years later to get that degree! Los Angeles Lakers team even agreed for him to miss a game so he could receive his diploma. Later, in 2012, Shaquille earned his doctorate degree, which even landed him a nickname Dr. O’Neal.

Michael Jordan

Yet another legendary basketball player. He was studying in a college before being accepted by the Chicago Bulls. However, he decided to continue education during athletes career and returned to get his Bachelor’s degree in geography.

Venus Williams

She is a professional tennis player. I would even call her an overachiever, as, despite a successful career, she decided to return to college and get her Associate degree. Considering the nature of her occupation, she was not able to be physically present for education, so with some online help, she also got her Bachelor’s degree in business administration.

As you can see, lots of professional athletes returned to college because they know the importance of higher education. The same applies to those athletes that are currently in college. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the assignments, don’t be afraid to look for some assistance for students or other types of online help. Getting help in study is a normal thing for any student, and those seeking a career in professional sports may need it more than others because of all the additional pressure.
