New York Yankees vs Philadelphia Phillies: Odds, Tips and Predictions 07/31/24

The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies filled some needs this week before the trade deadline, with Mark Leiter Jr. and Jazz Chisholm Jr. coming aboard for the Yankees and Austin Hays and Carlos Estevez joining Austin Hays’ Philadelphia Phillies side, respectively.

As this game marks a potential World Series matchup, fans will get their first look at these teams’ rosters at year’s end. Nestor Cortes will start for the Yankees; although he has allowed hard contact on flyballs recently, he should still keep Phillies bats under control.

Cristopher Sanchez will start for the Phillies and is considered an improvement over Cortes when it comes to keeping the ball on the ground while limiting hard contact.

Phillies vs Yankees

• Run Line: Phillies -1.5
• Moneyline Yankees +116
• Moneyline Phillies -136
• Over/Under 9.5

Our Best Pick: Bet Yankees ML

Not often can the Yankees be underdogs when Judge and Soto are healthy and have an experienced starter on the mound like Wheeler, who has been stellar this season but has yet to face such a strong lineup as this. The Phillies’ starting pitcher has proven himself repeatedly this season, so much so that he should be considered heavy favourites against this formidable lineup. The Yankees have recently found their footing, winning two out of three at Fenway to increase their momentum as they chase Baltimore for supremacy in the AL East. Luis Gil is scheduled to make his fourth start since returning from injury; in all three starts, he has allowed at least one earned run each time out. The Yankees have positive momentum and excitement about adding Chisholm as an outfielder, while the Phillies have lost two out of their last three games.

Yankees vs Phillies Head-to-Head

The Yankees have won the first two games of this series and will be looking for the series sweep.

Conclusion

Look for a low-scoring, close game with solid pitching on both sides. I think they Yankees offense will edge this late. Yankees 5  Phillies 3.
