Young was also the Tide’s rushing leader last week, with five attempts to rush for 100 yards and one score. Young will likely be active again in the running and take some deep shots to keep Texas’ defensive backfield happy.
LB Will Anderson
Bryce Young was not the greatest player in football last season. But Alabama’s linebacker Will Anderson was. Anderson was a sophomore and had an FBS-leading 18 tackles, 33.5 TFLs, and 101 tackles. Anderson will be in the Heisman conversation if he can repeat those numbers in 2022. He will also be a key player for the Texas Longhorns’ offensive line. He will need to get to Quinn Ewers regularly, which could be a difficult night for UT. But, if the Longhorns can devise a strategy to stop him, they might have a chance to win.

Quinn Ewers, Texas quarterback, maybe the player most under pressure this weekend, literally and metaphorically. Although the freshman quarterback displayed both promise and lack of experience in Week 1, the litmus test was higher this week, as the Alabama Crimson Tide could be the nation’s best defense in 2022. Demarvion Overshown, Texas’ senior linebacker, is the heart of Texas’ defense. He will be very busy in this game. Alabama’s 55-0 win over Utah State in Week 1 was a balanced victory. They threw for 281 yards and ran for 278. Overshown will play a vital role in the defensive running and passing game.
Bijan Robinson should be fed early and often. Two things are essential for a young quarterback: a strong running game and a skilled player to pass to. This second part is usually a tight one, but Robinson is such an explosive playmaker that he could keep Texas in the game. Quinn Ewers needs him to be at his very best Saturday. If he is, the Longhorns have a chance.
ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
Alabama head coach Nick Saban has a 27-2 against former assistants. However, both losses last season when Kirby Smart and Jimbo Fisher managed to defeat the Tide. Steve Sarkisian, Texas’ head coach, hopes to make it three times in a calendar year. However, he will face a daunting task with Will Anderson, and Bryce Young lined up alongside his Longhorns.
Betting the game
Texas is a talented team with the weapons to keep this game close for a half. The issue is that the Longhorns do not have the depth of the Crimson Tide. Plus, the Hoens have talented players but they have nothing like Young or Anderson. Look for the Tide to roll away from Texas during the second half.
