One of the most-feared heavyweight punchers in history was sent as a teenager to the Colorado State Penitentiary for second-degree murder. Ron Lyle was paroled after serving seven-and-a-half years of a 15-30-year sentence for and spent the rest of his life atoning and making up for lost time.
The Denver slugger never won a world title, but had classic clashes with George Foreman, Muhammad Ali, Earnie Shavers, Jerry Quarry, Ken Norton, Oscar Bonavena, and many other legends from a renaissanceΒ era of heavyweight boxing.
We interviewed him about his life and career in November of 2010 — a year and 12 days before he passed away at age 70.
This is one of the most-memorable conversations we’ve ever had during our nine-year stint on airwaves.
This special edition of The Ringside Boxing Show also includes another update from the red-hot boxing scene in the United Kingdom from our British correspondent, Paul McLaughlin.
