Ringside Boxing Show: Special Edition Ron Lyle: Penitentiary to Penthouse

Ron Lyle interview

One of the most-feared heavyweight punchers in history was sent as a teenager to the Colorado State Penitentiary for second-degree murder. Ron Lyle was paroled after serving seven-and-a-half years of a 15-30-year sentence for and spent the rest of his life atoning and making up for lost time.

The Denver slugger never won a world title, but had classic clashes with George Foreman, Muhammad Ali, Earnie Shavers, Jerry Quarry, Ken Norton, Oscar Bonavena, and many other legends from a renaissance era of heavyweight boxing.

We interviewed him about his life and career in November of 2010 — a year and 12 days before he passed away at age 70.
This is one of the most-memorable conversations we’ve ever had during our nine-year stint on airwaves.

This special edition of The Ringside Boxing Show also includes another update from the red-hot boxing scene in the United Kingdom from our British correspondent, Paul McLaughlin.

Be sure to catch the regular edition of our show every Sunday on The Grueling Truth Sports Network at 6 p.m. Pacific, 7 Mountain, 8 Central, 9 Eastern. This week’s featured guest will be Hall of Fame referee Joe Cortez.

Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor-publisher of, and co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of “Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy,” currently on the Amazon Bestsellers list.
