Finding motivation is easy when you’re winning, when you’re world-ranked, when you’re in the mix for a title shot or a big payday. It’s another story for a journeyman like Darnell Boone, a guy who will fight anybody, anytime, anywhere, on a day’s notice.
John J. Raspanti’s revealing interview on this special edition of The Ringside Boxing Show gives us a unique peek into the mind of one of the sport’s true gladiators — a 13-year veteran whose list ofopponents includes Andre Ward, Sergey Kovalev (twice), Adonis Stevenson (twice), Jean Pascal, Brian Vera, Edwin Rodriguez, Erislandy Lara, Brandon Gonzales, and Willie Monroe Jr. (All of those fighters, by the way, were undefeated when they fought Boone … and Stevenson and Monroe Jr. left the arena without their perfect records.)
We also get another report on the UK boxing scene from our new British correspondent, Paul McLaughlin, who provides some surprising information about Kell Brook, Chris Eubank Sr., and Tyson Fury.
Be sure to check out Sunday’s regular edition of The Ringside Boxing Show, during which we’ll interview legendary boxing journalist William Dettloff (former editor of The Ring magazine) about his life, his career, his books, and the brand-new boxing magazine he’s launching with Nigel Collins.
That show will be posted at http://thegruelingtruth.net this Sunday at 6 p.m. Pacific, 7 Mountain, 8 Central, 9 Eastern.
Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor/publisher of www.ringsideboxingshow.com, and co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of “Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti vs. Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy,” currently on Amazon’s Bestsellers list.
