The Grueling Truth - Where Legends Speak / Twitter feud between Bernard Pollard, Lamar Jackson continues

Twitter feud between Bernard Pollard, Lamar Jackson continues

Publish Date: 07/15/2022
Fact checked by: Mike Goodpaster

Despite his success, many do not consider Jackson Lamar of the Baltimore Ravens to be a top-tier quarterback. Former Baltimore safety Bernard Pollard has been one of Jackson’s harshest critics, and on Wednesday night he slammed the quarterback on Twitter. It sparked a back-and-forth feud between the two. Jackson had established himself as one of the best players in the NFL since taking over as the Baltimore Ravens’ starting QB after being selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. He won the league’s second-ever unanimous MVP award while also excelling as a runner and thrower.

In 58 career games, Jackson has thrown for 84 touchdowns, 9,967 yards, and 31 interceptions. He also has 615 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns. The 25-year-old player set the single-season quarterback rushing record (1,206 yards) in 2019 and became the first quarterback in NFL history to have 3,000 or more passing yards and 1,000 or more rushing yards in the same season.

He is also the only player in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and score 30 touchdowns in the same season. Jackson has a 37-12 record as a starter, breaking Dan Marino’s record for most wins by a quarterback before the age of 25.

He began the 2021 season as the only quarterback in at least the last 20 seasons to be ranked in the top 10 in passing and rushing through his team’s first five games, but he was forced to miss the rest of the season due to injury.

ESPN Top-10 List triggers feud

On Tuesday, former NFL safety and current ESPN commentator Ryan Clark argued that Jackson must be included in an ESPN survey of anonymous executives’ top-10 quarterbacks. Jackson, according to Pollard, was a skilled but not the best quarterback.

“It’s a lot that can be said. He’s def a Top 10 talent, but as for a Top 10 QB I don’t see it. I believe he should get paid by the #Ravens and should get TOP dollar!” he commented.

In their feud on Twitter, Pollard suggested that wide receivers aren’t keen on playing with Jackson. The QB replied by questioning Pollard’s impact in Super Bowl XLVII.

“You been cappin since I been playing for the ravens I never heard of you tbh my boy you got your Super Bowl cause of ray Lewis and Ed Reed 🤣🤣 that year,” Jackson tweeted.

Following the Twitter heated exchanges, several current and former Ravens players couldn’t stop themselves from responding. For example, Jackson’s former teammate Marquise Brown stated his strong disagreement with the “narrative” that Jackson is not a good enough quarterback. After all, Jackson is a 37-12 starter who led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2019.

Pollard critics toward Jackson

Pollard has taken a strong stance against Jackson, Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh, and the Baltimore organization in recent years. His time with the Ravens did not end well, and he has spent a significant amount of time expressing his feelings about his former team, former coach, and new players such as Jackson.

Pollard previously stated on The Herd with Colin Cowherd that Jackson’s incompetency does not generate revenue for the team.

“He has a pacifier in his mouth. He’s not making any checks, he’s not moving the o-line, he’s not checking out of certain plays to put himself into a better situation offensively,” he said.

Furthermore, when describing the Ravens’ football style, Pollard referred to it as “backyard football,” meaning the Ravens rely heavily on Jackson to deliver the big play.
