49ers Weekly with Dexter Carter – Lions Review and Chiefs Preview

Join Dexter Carter and Matt Andruscavage this week on 49ers Weekly as they review the San Francisco 49ers’ win over the Detroit Lions and preview Sunday’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Matt Breida led the way against Detroit with 138 yards rushing and is the NFL’s leading rusher after two games. Kicker Robbie Gould was the NFL’s Special Teams Player of the Week.

While the 49ers gave up two scores in the last 10 minutes of the game, they did hold on for the win against a potential Wild Card contender in Detroit. San Francisco improved to 1-1 and now faces Kansas City in Arrowhead, a place they have not won in since 1982.

For the Niners to win, they will have to:

  1. Win the time of possession. The best way to win is to keep Patrick Mahomes on the bench. This can be accomplished with long drives.
  2. Get the defense off the field on third down. Every third down will be critical against an offense as potent as Kansas City’s.
  3. Score touchdowns in the red zone. This week must show an improvement in the red zone. They cannot settle for field goals and win.
  4. Take care of the football. The 49ers can’t afford to commit turnovers in a game like this.
