Tsarukyan, a 25-year-old Georgia native, and Gamrot, a 31-year-old Poland native, were also competing to enter the top ten of the lightweight division. The former, who only lost in his UFC debut against Islam Makhachev in 2019, was trying to extend his winning streak to six matches. Meanwhile, the latter was coming off a three-fight winning streak. The rising Polish star also had only one defeat recorded throughout his professional career, which he suffered against Guram Kutateladze through a split decision in 2020.
Ultimately Gamrot was determined the winner by unanimous decision. In the match, their capabilities to deliver takedowns determined the flow and outcome of the fight, as there is no real difference between their signature strikes.
The two fighters took the center in the first round and scrambled immediately. At this point, they were still looking for their range, with Tsarukyan managing to land a takedown. Tsarukyan followed with a body kick, but Gamrot responded with a right-hand hit.
In round two, Tsarukyan managed to score a left hand while Gamron aimed to grab his opponent’s legs. As the round went on, Tsarukyan struggled to land clean strikes on Gamrot, and they both scrambled as they aimed to take out each other’s arms. The crowd went wild, cheering his name as Tsarukyan got a clean body kick.
Gamrot started the third round with a good right hand as both fighters started to display higher-level fighting techniques. Tsarukyan managed to shrug off Gamrot’s single-leg takedown, and the latter tried again and successfully landed a neat left hand. His other attempt for a takedown was botched by Tsarukyan’s defenses. Tsarukyan retaliated with a spinning back kick that landed on Gamrot’s chest.
The fourth round was even more intense as Tsarukyan and Gamrot exchanged blows. The latter threw another left hand, hitting the former in the head. Tsarukyan responded with a body kick and a spinning back kick which dropped Gamrot. Gamrot eventually managed to score another takedown and took Tsarukyan in the back to force a submission, which failed.
The final round began with Tsarukyan dodging Gamrot’s swings. Tsarukyan managed to drop Gamrot with a strong low kick, and the latter once again scored a clean takedown. Tsarukyan managed to get Gamrot off him and delivered another body kick, while Gamrot looked for an opening for another takedown. However, Tsarukyan defended himself and responded with a body kick as soon as he got up. In the final seconds of the fight, Gamrot performed another takedown with Tsarukyan attempting to get him off the back.
Tsarukyan did strike more frequently in the match, managing to land six in his 21 attempts. However, ultimately it was the number of takedowns that decided the outcome of the match. Tsarukyan had only scored one successful takedown out of his eight attempts. Gamrot, on the other hand, scored five more takedowns than the Armenian-Russian, guaranteeing his victory.
