Baseball fans just can’t stop talking about their favorite team, spending an average of 445 days (!) of their lives doing so. That’s more than a full week a year, nonstop – year after year. This comes from a survey The Grueling Truth commissioned among 3,000 baseball fans nationwide.

Key findings:

  • Washington Nationals fans talk about their team the most: 624 days over a lifetime
  • Miami Marlins fans rank the lowest, with an average of 234 days
  • On average, MLB fans talk about their favorite team 3.4 hours per week, which adds up to 1 year and 80 days over a lifetime (based on an average of 60 years of fandom)
  • The most talked-about player among all MLB fans is Shohei Ohtani of the LA Dodgers

With the MLB season in full swing and fans closely following their teams’ performance, it’s clear they have plenty to say about their ballpark heroes. In fact, baseball fanatics spend more than a year of their lives talking about their favorite teams. Nonstop. But who really hits it out of the park when it comes to fan talk?

Washington Nationals fans talk about their team the most

Washington Nationals fans talk far more about their team than anyone else: on average, 624 days over a lifetime. That’s more than half a workday per week, or over 10 straight days per year. Among Nationals fans, outfielder James Wood is the most talked-about player.

Tied for second are fans of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Mets. Both fanbases spend 611 days of their lives talking about their teams. Corbin Carroll and Juan Soto are the players most often on fans’ lips, respectively.

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is the most talked-about player across all MLB teams.

MLB fanbases talking the least about their team

Less talkative are Miami Marlins fans, who spend an average of 234 days over a lifetime talking about their team. This is the lowest of all MLB fanbases. Outfielder Owen Caissie is the most talked-about player among Marlins fans.

Methodology

For The Grueling Truth’s MLB Fan Talk Study, a survey was conducted in March 2026 among 3,000 MLB fans in the U.S. Respondents were asked about their favorite MLB team, and how many hours per week they spend talking about their team. This may include conversations with fellow fans, friends, family, colleagues etc. These weekly averages were then converted into annual figures and lifetime estimates, with the latter based on an assumed 60-year span of fandom. Respondents were also asked which player they talk about most. Of all respondents, 63% identified as male, 36% as female, and 1% non-binary. The average age was 42.2 years.
