Leading your opponent by four or five goals heading into third-period surely would seem like an assured victory. But on the back of evidence, no lead is safe in NHL as more and more teams are turning defeat into victory in the final period. Such comeback victories have proved to be a cherry on the top during the holidays.
With such unpredictable games going on punters are scratching their heads as they canโt really decide how to place a successful bet. But this also means that if you win a bet it will be by a huge margin. So take a look at these NHL betting odds before you place a bet.
When the result seems obvious fans often start leaving in the final minutes in order to avoid traffic. But it is an old clichรฉ that anything can happen in Hockey. Fetching a win from the mouths of defeat is certainly something one of those things. And it is happening more often recently.
Take last weekendโs game between Tampa Bay and Montreal for example. Montreal were leading by a goal seemed destined for a victory. Then out of nowhere Tampa Bay levelled score in the final period and scored one more with just over a minute of regulation time remaining. This sudden rise in comebacks can be attributed to the impressive forward lines that many teams possess.
The game is getting very intense these days and the fans are overjoyed with it. If you try to sit back and protect a lead, offensive players will chase the puck down and try to score. Hockey has now turned into a skating game and more attacking play is on show.
Gabriel Landeskog recently stressed on the number of quality players throughout the league. He said that there are a lot of technical and offensive players in all the teams which makes it very difficult to try and protect a lead.
In soccer it is said that attack is the best form of defence. Given the recent upturn in the number of comebacks in NHL that strategy is applicable to Hockey too.
Having a technically gifted forward line is not enough for a team to win games in the dying stages. The players must have to believe that they can snatch victory against all odds, whatever the time and circumstances. Sometimes a positive mindset can see โDavidโ come out victorious over โGoliathโ.
Sometimes that belief gets a boost when a team gets one or two goals back. The thrilling fixture between Dallas Stars and Avalanche a fortnight ago is the perfect example of this. Avalanche took a 3-0 lead in the initial period and it looked like they will easily cruise through the game. In the second period Dallas scored two goals before Avalanche added one of their own. With the score 4-2 in the final period it was turning out to be a nervy affair.
Thatโs how important scoring even a single goal can be in putting pressure on your opponent. Avalanche came out on top in the end with a 6-4 victory but a comeback was definitely on the cards for Dallas. They remained aggressive all throughout and remained in the game till the final buzzer.
